Honda's New  Players in the Indian Car Industry

With the presence of more than a decade in the country, the Japanese car manufacturer Honda Motors has proved its potential. The company has bravely invested over Rs. 1,600 crore for the Indian market.

It was in the year 1995, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. (HSCI) was born with the joint venture between the Japanese car manufacturer Honda Motor Co. Ltd. and Siel Ltd., a Siddarth Shriram Group company. Now HSCI has three lakh proud owners across the country. The company has set up its foot strongly and now does not have any plans to relinquish its strong grip from the fast growing Indian car market.

Honda is now working on more products from its global line-up. Honda’s car sales are boosting up with all its successful models in India. In the year 2008, 36,849 cars were sold and the Civic Hybrid also showed an impressive sale of 50 cars countrywide since its launch.

Honda’s new lunches in India has created a sensation in the auto industry. The three models have enthralled the industry with their iconic look, elegance and performance.

Honda Civic Hybrid

The India’s first hybrid car has gained superb response from the consumers. This eco-friendly car reflects its endeavour towards the protection of the environment and conservation of energy sources. The car features a 3-stage i-VTEC + IMA that carries 1.3L i-VTEC (variable valve timing and lift electronic control) engine. Mated with highly efficient CVT transmission, the car is nearly 47 per cent more fuel efficient compared to the regular 1.8L Civic AT, without compromising on driving performance.

Imported as completely built unit from Japan, Civic hybrid deserved to be appreciated for its sleek, aerodynamic exteriors and new-age luxurious interiors. The car features best of the safety technology including active headrest and four SRS airbags (driver, assistant and side air bags).


Honda Civic Sport

This sport variant was unveiled at the 9th Auto Expo in January (2008) in New Delhi and received an awesome response from the visitors. The feedback has led the company to roll out this model as the limited edition with the price tag of Rs. 12.36 lakh.

The car does not differ with the existing Civic in terms of engine. Civic Sport comes with the sporty features like front under-spoiler, side under-spoiler, rear under-spoiler and a trunk-spoiler, and white alloy wheels with sports badging. In addition to this, the car is also enhanced with side sticker and a special car serial number on the gear shift column to declare its limited edition. It also offers best-in-class luxury and driving pleasure that customers enjoy with the Honda Civic.

Honda Accord

The eighth generation Honda Accord carrying a price tag of Rs. 16.49 lakh is enhanced with larger wheel base and an advanced and more powerful engine. The length and the width of the new Accord have been also increased by 80 mm and 25 mm. Propelled by a 2.4litre-VTEC engine, the new Accord is E10 compatible (10 per cent ethanol and 90 per cent unleaded petrol) and the fuel-efficiency has been improved by 8 per cent.

These are the recent launches that have pushed the Honda car sales up and now the brand is also working on the small car project for India as small car covers the major shares in the Indian auto industry.
