Indian Car Names

A name is an identity generally used to distinguish one from another. Names normally are a label for a noun which can identify a class or category of things, or a single thing, either uniquely, or within a given context. We usually tend to spend quality amount of time searching for a good name for our favourite possessions. There are people who are not happy about his/her name and will always be in the search for a right name. A “Name” though is very personal; the irony here is that is often used by others. Most of the names have meaning, for example grace, signifying a quality, cookie (for a pet) signifies a cute and exciting thing, Bethlehem (house name) a holy place, etc. We name kids after their fathers and grandfathers, and we even give them the names of gods, goddesses, and saints and the naming ceremony is an auspicious occasion.

Indian Car Industry has certainly not lagged behind when it came to naming the cars portraying the sentiments and emotions of the people of India.
Some Car and Brand names which ring a bell in the Indian Car's buyer's mindset have been given below:

bullet  Maruti Suzuki 800

Maruti 800 is a small car, which can be called the revolutionist in the Indian car market. Manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in 1983, Maruti 800 has etched its name in the annals of the Indian Motor Industry as India's First People’s Car. The numerically sounding name denotes the cubic capacity of the engine of the car. Maruti had also brought out a car named Maruti 1000 also named on the CC of the engine of the vehicle. Maruti 800 was the best-selling car in India until it was displaced by its stable-mate, Maruti Alto. Maruti 800 has petrol variants with the option of with air conditioner and without air conditioner. Two decades in the Indian car industry, Maruti 800 has made minor upgrades and still selling in considerable numbers.

bullet  Tata Nano

The “One Lakh Car” as it was touted; Tata Nano created ripples of sensation throughout the world. Nano the name of the car means extremely minute and no wonder the name couldn't more aptly suit the car. This small marvel with an engine capacity of 600 CC is a four seater with spacious interiors and mind-blowing great fuel efficiency. Tata is planning to launch the Nano in Europe and America by 2012. Without compromising on Safety, comfort and pricing in the production of Nano, Tata had to let go features like power steering, had to settle down with just one side view mirror, single windscreen wiper to make it the cheapest car. Nano will hit Indian roads by July 2009.

With a slight twist in spelling, The Blue Oval brand is still trying to make its model an iconic vehicle. The car is an icon or symbol of style, class and new generation. The “Josh Machine” as once read the tag line; Ford Ikon with its European-designed electronic instrument cluster, spacious interiors, and well structured exteriors gives in an elegant look. Equipped with most modern features, the Ikon has two variants Ford Ikon 1.3 Rocam and Ikon 1.4 DuraTorq TDCi.

The Superb is a splendid vehicle that matches the name in all its true sense. Superb is the most luxurious model from Skoda stable and is quite a stunner on the roads. Skoda Superb is a feature-laden luxury car with a unbelievable price tag in its class. The car promises a seven star experience and sure it does without a hilt of doubt in it. In India Skoda Superb is available in three variants namely Elegance Petrol, Elegant Diesel, and Comfort Diesel.

Mitsubishi Outlander is a soft off roader SUV with all-season and off-road abilities offered by a high ground clearance and four-wheel drive, while still offering car-like levels of emissions, economy and size. “Outlander” provides “out of the world” features making it an alien where ever in goes. Originally known as Mitsubishi Airtrek, Outlander was first introduced in Japan. This new name also induces a feeling of an adventurous journey. Outlander is a 'Foreigner' in any land with futuristic functionalities.

The Honda Civic was launched in India in 2006. The car projects the true meaning of its name, which means something that belongs to or is related to a city or citizen. The word civic is derived from the Latin word civicus. Honda Civic launched in India is the eighth generation model, and it is a true delight with its sporty styling, futuristic features, spacious interiors, affordable price, and excellent fuel efficiency. As the name denotes it is very urban car and is something that is associated with city or development. City is another model from Honda that has a name in line with Civic.
