Indian car buyer has been given a staple diet of Japanese and US cars with some attractive side dishes from Europe. Indians are yet to find that there are more markets which produce equally good and sometimes better cars.
A Canada based
Car Design Company has come up with all aluminum body car. Aluminum body is used in
race cars and aeroplane body frames. As it is a lightweight material with good capacity to withstand tension at high speeds, the metal is most preferred for performance vehicles. Actually there are very few all aluminum body cars in the world, and this Canadian company is now planning to get it to India.
The car has been named as the I-C Beaver will have radial engine located in the centre of the vehicle and have a soft nose. It can comfortably seat four persons. The car is designed for performance. Hence, it will be fitted with 800cc 5-cylinder radial engine churning out a 60 bhp power. The company has not revealed the
fuel efficiency ratings but industry experts believe that the car could give 50 kms per liter. It comes with lightweight body frame but is more powerful and fuel efficient. The car will be manufactured in India and then exported to other countries. The most interesting part about the car is that it will be priced just around Rs 3 lakh ($4000-$8000).
The Canadian company will manufacture and market the car through a Delhi based company called AKSA Autotrade.
The Indian company will have the right to manufacture and market the car for the whole of Asian continent. The Beaver will meet all the safety standards stipulated in India, USA and European union. It will be able to stop and accelerate faster than steel bodied vehicles. The company has target of 1 lakh units in the first year of its launch.
The car was relatively simple to manufacture and cheaper by several standards. The simplicity of the design and engineering qualifies it for mass manufacturing. The cost cutting took place in the areas of technical designing and engineering stuff.
The car design states that the radial engine will be mounted in the centre and a back to back seating will offer little resistance. Further in the event of a collision, Beaver’s soft nose will act as a frontal crumple zone and absorbs the collision energy sparing the occupant from any harm.
The car has been named after Canada’s national symbol. The all aluminum body is also good for re-cycling the car when not in use. We have to wait to see if the people will go for this car or will remain stick to more traditionally designed ones.
