Tata Indicruz
The much-awaited Tata Indicruz will finally hit roads by February 2010. This crossover is based on a brand new platform with a generous wheelbase of 2750 mm and will carry the
Tata Safari's 2.1-litre Dicor engine that can churn out 140 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. This engine is tuned for efficiency rather than outright performance in the Indicruz. This new Tata crossover has wonderful interior space and comfort that is synonymous with all Tata cars. The front fascia of the Indicruz crossover will be dominated by large and strong headlamps and the big grille with the Tata logo in the centre.
Volkswagen Tiguan
The Volkswagen Tiguan is another compact crossover ready to invade Indian roads in early 2010. The Tiguan is based on the A5 (PQ35) platform of the
Mk V Golf. It is available in two body styles and three specification levels, such as Tiguan Trend & Fun, Tiguan Sport & Style and Tiguan Track & Field. It comes loaded with features like six airbags, ESP, Trailer Stability Program integrated with the ESP, Isofix child seat anchorages on the rear bench and electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, RCD 210 radio with integrated CD player, "Climatic" semi-automatic climate control system, four electric window lifts, electrically-adjustable and heated outside mirror. This compact SUV was first showcased at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show and was launched in Europe in 2008. The Tiguan will compete with other SUVs of its segment like Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour and yet to be launched Hyundai Santa FE in India.
Land Rover Discovery
Tata Motors will introduce the Land Rover Discovery to India by the first quarter of 2010. The new Land Rover Discovery will stand against the BMW X5 and the Audi Q7. The Land Rover Discovery comes with two engine choices, namely a 2.7-litre diesel engine and a 3-litre diesel powerplant. The face of the Discovery will get flat square and rectangular shapes. It will also sport prominent grille and round lamps within the headlights and LED bulb at the rear.
ICML Inspire
The ICML Inspire will finally make its debut in 2010. This SUV was first unveiled at the 2008 Auto Expo. The Inspire looks a bit like a stylised Rhino, the first offering from
ICML. The Inspire is going to be a high performing five-seater SUV. This sophisticated SUV is targeted at the young generation. However, there is no much detail on the Inspire.
Skoda Yeti
The Skoda Yeti can be aptly described as the missing link between
Fabia and Octavia in India. The Yeti will come in 103 bhp 1.2- litre petrol and a 140 bhp 2.0L common-rail diesel engine. The Skoda Yeti will also get the 4X4 transmission as standard. Stylish headlamps, robust look, draped around windscreen, roof rails, long suspense and high ground clearance make the Yeti crossover a desirable car in every sense. The Yeti is going to be the first crossover from the Czech manufacturer to grace Indian roads. It will hit the Indian roads somewhere around mid-2010.
Hyundai Santa FE
Hyundai cars and sedans have been quite successful in India. Now the Korean car maker is gearing up to bring in the Santa FE to the Indian market by mid-2010. The Santa FE is a crossover SUV based on the Sonata platform. This SUV will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel powerplant mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It will come equipped with a 4-wheel-drive (4WD) system. The Hyundai Santa FE will take on the Chevrolet Captiva, Honda CR-V and the recently launched
Nissan X-Trail.
Volvo XC60
The Swedish auto maker is all geared up to roll out the XC60 in India. This soft-roader will compete with the BMW X3 and the
Audi Q5. The Volvo XC60 has got an awesome look without any aggressive lines or excess bulk on the body. The traditional cabin comprises wood inlays, silky materials, soft-touch plastics and brushed metal for the many panels and accessories. The car will be driven by a 3.2-litre 6-cylinder petrol engine that can derive 238 bhp of power. There is a 175 2.4-litre diesel engine too. The Volvo XC60 will make its maiden entry in India in mid-2010.
