Top 8 Tips to Keep a Car Engine Clean and Clear

Life of a car depends on the health of its engine. A well maintain and clean engine depicts the vigor of the car. Car with clean and clear engine compartments without any fluid leaks, worn belts, and rusts is fun to drive. Therefore, maintenance of engine is one of the imperative tasks that should be address by a car owner frequently.
Here are few tips that will make the engine cleaning process easy:
The engine or the compartment covered with grease, oil, and dust particles is difficult to remove as they are not traditional stains. Before starting the cleaning process warm up the engine by turning it on for some time to soften the greasy dirt accumulated on the engine.

Car engine can also be cleaned with water but ensure that other mechanical and the electrical components under the hood is well covered as water can damage them. Use plastic bags to cover some of the car parts like the air intake/air filter, distributor, coil, and the oil dipstick/breather. To be on the safer side check on the oil filler cap, power steering filler cap, windshield washer fluid cap, oil dip stick, battery filler caps to make sure that this parts are not drenched by water.

Spray non-petroleum base liquid all over the engine and engine box. Citrus-based degreasers can be used as they are not harmful to paints or any aluminium polish and are eco-friendly as well.

Once the liquid is settled on the engine, use a soft cloth or a brush with soft brussels and scrub it on the dirt. Repeat the procedure for couple of time until the grease and dirt is completely vanished. When the cleaning is completed, rinse the engine thoroughly with water.

Remove all plastic bags used to cover the other car parts. It is always better to dry the battery with paper towels. Start the engine for a warm up after all the drying process is finished, as this will further dry the additional water that may be left over in the engine.

Once the engine is neat and dries up, use protective coating to avoid further dirt deposition.

Some times dirt may also be accumulated on the battery terminals that can be cleaned with a dry neat cloth. Battery terminal spray can also be used to prevent oxidization on the battery surface.

It is also recommended to use some non-silicon lubricant to the hinges, throttle cables, and cruise control cables as well as to the similar moving parts. Last but not the least, do not forget to check the fluid levels and now the car is healthy to be driven out.

Precautionary Note: Always ensure a good eye protection while using chemical based cleaning agents like engine degreasers as they may be harmful if not taken care.
