New Maruti Cars with K Series Engine

The household name of Indian car industry, Maruti Suzuki India, is all set to introduce a new range of engine called the K-series for all its future models to compete the Hyundai’s Kappa engine. It will also race with the iRDRE engine and the Chevrolet’s SOHC engine.

The specialty of the engine is its fuel-efficient nature and compliance to 4- and Euro 5-norm. As already mentioned about its rival, Hyundai India has already introduced Euro 4-compliant engines across its range of models in India. It is the most advanced engines in the car manufacturer’s stable and in a span of 3-5 years all the Maruti-Suzuki’s existing models like Zen Estilo, Swift, and WagonR would also be fitted with the K-series engines. Maruti-Suzuki Splash, another upcoming hatchback will also make its entry in to Indian roads with K-series engine.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki uses five types of engines for its different models. To start with is the F-series engines for Maruti 800, Omni, Wagon R and Zen Estilo; the G-series (available in two variants) in the Swift, Swift Dzire and Versa; the M-series in the SX4, and the latest to be launched the K-series for upcoming cars like ‘A Star’ which will be propelled by 1-litre K-series petrol engine and ‘Splash’ – run by a 3-litre engine (available petrol and diesel version). Initially, ‘A-Star’ will be exported to Europe and then will slowly move on to other countries.

In order to spread out themselves in smaller town and cities, the company is also working on aggressive strategies to push sales. In 2007-08 fiscal the company made record sales by exporting 53,000 cars and by 2010 Maruti-Suzuki aims to attain a sales target of one million cars per annum. The net profit of the company in the first quarter of 2008-09 was reported Rs 465.9 crore compared to Rs 499.6 crore during the same period of the last year. Net sales saw a growth rate of 20.9 per cent over the same period of the previous year. Domestic sales also experienced a growth of 12.1 per cent and the models responsible for the sales growth were Swift, Swift Dzire and WagonR, selling 180,093 cars during the quarter. This auto leader will also expand its sales outlets in Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

Only time can answer if Maruti-Suzuki’s K-series will beat other modern options or not. Many car manufacturers are coming up with the upgraded engines claiming to be more powerful and fuel-efficient. Is these engines are really fuel-efficient? Or it is another marketing tactics remains a big question!
