Mid-Mounted Engine
The V-8 mid-mounted engine is one of the top most innovations equipped in Audi R8. In addition, the combination of Quattro permanent all-wheel drive makes the sports car more muscular and powerful. The engine is smartly placed between the two axles with excellent weight distribution. Another defining feature of the mid-mounted engine is a dry sump lubrication that enables lower centre of gravity of the vehicle. Dry slump lubrication is a system that lubricates the internal parts of the engine components and optimizes the performance.
Further to that, the mid-mounted engine behind the wheel offers agile handling characteristics and incredible cornering speed.
FSI Technology
FSI stands for Fuel Stratified Injection, an innovative technology that uses a high pressure direct injection pump and creates a perfect synergy between engine power and fuel consumption. With this technology equipped in the sports car, fuel is directly injected into the combustion chamber through injection valves controlled electronically and the injection pressure is generated by a high pressure pump driven by the camshaft.
Audi has pinned high hopes from FSI technology since 2001 at Le Mans, an innovation that has helped the
car manufacturer achieve comprehensive victory. This innovative technology helps improve combustion efficiency and engine performance. It is also known to reduce the levels of automotive emissions.
Audi Space Frame (ASF)
ASF is a high-strength car body frame composed of aluminum and equipped with integrated panels to perform a load-bearing function. Audi is the first marquee to manufacture car body structure with aluminum, a substance that gives exceptional stiffness and above-average crash protection to the car.
The technology is constantly refined and upshot. The new car Audi R8 is designed with the refined version of ASF comprising a blend of aluminum and magnesium. This construction technique offers the best of both the worlds to the car owners. The key advantages of the technique are minimal car weight, enhanced safety of the car occupants, increased performance, excellent handling, and unmatched fuel-efficiency.
Audi Magnetic Ride
Innovation that makes the Audi R8 a smooth operator on road as well as track is the Audi’s magnetic ride adaptive damper system. The technology adjusts the dampers in accordance to the changing road conditions within milliseconds. The magnetic ride detects the condition of the road and depending on the condition it adjusts the dampers to deliver the best suitable ride experience.
Audi Magnetic Ride is a revolutionary suspension system that comprises shocks filled with a special kind of high viscosity fluid that can be controlled by an electromagnetic field. The electromagnetic properties of the fluid help to deliver appropriate damping forces and adjust its driving dynamics.
R tronic Transmission
The R tronic transmission is an optional feature in the newly launched
Audi R8. This sequential six-speed manual gearbox lays emphasis on performance. It is well-defined as a racing-breed.
With R tronic transmission, shifting of gears is carried out by using the joystick or by paddles on the steering wheel. In addition, an automatic mode is also available that can be switched over in a very short time span using the shift-by-wire technology. This shift-by-wire technology enables faster gear shifting and delivers an outstanding power-to-weight ratio.
