Everyone loves to smoke or eat behind the wheel. But is it safe to eat or smoke while driving? Many of them do this multi-tasking but surprisingly this kind of driving is banned in many countries. A slight distraction on the road may provoke serious accidents. Most of the time people do not take it seriously and enjoy their drives eating and smoking unaware of the risk factors that hovers around.
Driving Distraction Most frequent cause of road accidents is the lack of concentration while driving. Majority of drivers under the young age of 20 are the victims of
car accidents. Drivers often indulge themselves in smoking and drinking while driving which divert the concentration resulting in fatal accidents.
Driving while Smoking
In many countries, smoking is prohibited in public places and working areas. The law has also been announced in India. Such laws will soon be applicable while driving which will forbid the drivers as well as the occupants to smoke in private hired vehicles or taxis. This also indicates that the drivers are also restricted to smoke in taxis when there are no passengers. Many young drivers feel smoking while driving is a style and they ignore the consequences which may prove deadly for them as well as for other innocent commuters.
Eating & Drinking while Driving It has become very common or can say a fashion munching snacks or sipping a can of beer while driving. As per the survey conducted, eating and drinking during driving influences up to 2% of drivers involved in road accidents. In the recent years, even using mobile phones has become a nuisance causing numbers of accidents. Other distractions like operating a CD player when driving is also dangerous as the driver do not give much attention on the road while doing so.
It is not advisable to avoid greasy foods when driving, as sticky hands hinders in moving the
steering wheels. Even fizzy drinks are not safe as they can distract the driver’s attention when they spill.
