History
Founded by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larsson, Volvo was purely built on the platform of quality and safety on April 14, 1927. During the first year of its establishment, the company rolled out its first car, ‘Jakob’ that rolled out from Gothenburg, Sweden.
The fledgling company soon started the production of closed tap and cabriolet models to modify its OV4 and PV4, thereby enabling the cars to better withstand the harsh weather conditions in Sweden. Thereafter, the company produced many more cars in the global market and it reached its first production milestone of 10,000 in May 1932.
Volvo is also believed to pioneer the car safety segment of the car industry. In 1999, Volvo was owned by Ford Motors and was an essential part of the Premier Automotive Group. Under Ford’s ownership, Volvo gained higher potential to continue the progress of both the company and the portfolio of cars.
Brand Name
The brand name ‘Volvo’ was introduced on February 20, 1915 by Svenska Kullagerfabriken (SKF). The name came from the Latin word, ‘Volvere’ that means ‘roll’.
With great simplicity and smoothness in their operations, the company always wanted to roll on different roads across the world. That’s why some smart members of the company chose this name, a name that is simple, smart and easy to pronounce.
Ancient Logo
After the name was introduced, an ancient chemical symbol for iron was launched as the logo of the Volvo cars. The logo comprises a circle with an arrow diagonally pointing upwards towards the right. The upward arrow symbolizes the aim and desire of the company to reach higher and higher and get newer heights in the right direction. The logo is further complemented with a band across the design that has the name ‘Volvo’ engraved on it in its own typography.
Volvo in India
India was always a lucrative car market for global car manufacturers. Almost all the overseas players made their debuts in the country with one or more of their most successful car models. Even Volvo did the same.
The company entered the
Indian car market with its most successful car models, Volvo S80 sedan and Volvo XC90 SUV. Both the cars are available in diesel and petrol versions and have carved their individual niche in the industry. These are equipped with loads of advanced and innovative features that deem ultimate comfort and driving experience to all its customers. The luxury sedan S80 has always been a tough competitor of cars from Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW. The rugged SUV also has its own specific characteristics that made it a popular SUV in the segment.
After recording the success of S80 and
XC 90, the company also introduced stylish Volvo C70 coupe and convertible on Indian roads. This car was launched with a blend of unmatched comfort, elegant luxuries and excellent driving experience.
Even further, the company is planning to make many more launches in the Indian car market and share a bigger piece of the pie.
