Ever since the Mahindra launched the Scorpio with the new
M-Hawk engine, the car has gained a new power. Only a person who has driven the
Scorpio will notice that the new engine gives more power than its predecessor. M-Hawk’s predecessor the Scorpio came with a 2.6 liter common rail diesel engine generating 115 bhp. This engine made the Scorpio huge successful in India. The amount of power it generated made people queue up to buy the car.
The new M-Hawk engine has a much less displacement of 2.2 liters but gives 120bhp, that is full five bhp more then the CRDe. But the difference is not limited to numbers alone.
Get behind the wheels of M-Hawk powered engine and you will notice it. The vehicle goes from 0 to 100 within 15 seconds that is a full 1.6 seconds faster the Scorpio CRDe. This could be achieved because the new engine is very lighter, 82 kgs lesser than the CRDe engine. This provides the throttle to push the car ahead without any load. The M-hawks handling is also better than its predecessor.
The engine is the same as is installed in 2.2liter Dicor churning out a 140 bhp. Both these engines were developed by the Austrian company AVL, which is the world’s largest private company developing engines systems and internal combustion engines, instrumentation and test systems.
The M-Hawk Scorpio has overcome the ride quality and driving problems of its predecessor offering a smooth ride with front independent suspension that proves to be of excellent quality. It has been redone with new springs and dampers. The car is now able to make quick stops thanks to the three channel anti-lock braking system. The M-hawk can match any other
SUV in its category in highway cruising. However, the heavy body still poses a challenge to drivers. The new Scorpio carries the same design and body weight as its predecessor.
The air scoop on the bonnet helps feed air to the intercooler, aiding in the smooth functioning of the engine. In the interiors remains the same except for the dash with new colour. The two-tone black and red theme has been cleverly used on the dashboard and seat covers. They make the car look more luxurious than its competitors.
The seats are more boarder and slide behind well to give the perfect back support. The eight-seater M-Hawk Scorpio is practical in rural areas, but the third row seat can make way for luggage space in urban areas as families are smaller.
To add to its allure is the price tag of 9.9 lakh which is lesser than its competitors Tata Safari and Toyota Innova. The original Scorpio when launched in 2002 won several car awards for being the best SUV and now it m-hawks’ turn to be the winner.
