However, the actual production began in 1983. The company entered into partnership with Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan to manufacture cars. The main intention of introducing Maruti Udyog Limited was to help the people for personal mode of transport, as they were not much reliable on the public transport system that was not up to the mark in the past.

Maruti Suzuki exports more than 30,000 cars annually and has enormously large domestic market selling annually over 500,000 cars in India.

Today Maruti Suzuki has built a strong sales network of 600 outlets spread over 393 towns and cities. The maintenance support is offered to the customers through 2628 workshops spread over 1200 towns and cities.
