Always Be Prepared
Always keep an accident kit in the car dash. The kits should include a pen, paper, some basic first aid and a small blanket if possible. These things immediate help and aid to cure minor injuries after the accident.
Stop the Car
The first thing to do after a collision is to immediately stop the car. Switch off the car engine and switch on the hazard warning light to alert other car drivers driving towards the accident scene. Check if any of the occupants are injured. If the injuries are serious, call for immediate medical help.
At the Accident Scene
Assistance is required for medical help and to handle traffic. So call for assistance. In the mean time give the required first aid to the passengers if the injury requires an antiseptic cream, lotion or a band-aid.
Exchange Details
If after the first aid, you are in a perfect condition then it is good to write down the complete information of the accident scene. The information includes time and place of collision, weather and road conditions and the complete personal information of those involved. Personal information includes name, address, telephone details, driver’s license number and
car insurance details. If there are other vehicles involved in the accident, mention the vehicle’s make, model, variant, colours and license plate number. This will help to prevent you from any kind of legal hassles.
Inspect Car Condition
Thoroughly inspect the car condition. If the consequences are severe, then you have to call the police and claim for your car insurance. Other way round, if no passengers are injured and there is only a minor dent on the car, then a simple sorry can work. If you really think that with the dent, the car can be driven away safely, then discuss with the other driver about how the legal issues can be avoided. Don’t start the discussion without exchanging personal details because if in case you are planning to claim insurance for the repair, you will need the complete accident details. With patience, try to solve the issue then and there.
