City to City Racing
City to City Racing was the earliest form of car racing which was quite popular in France. One of the prestigious automobile club in France called ACF (Automobile Club of France) organized number of important international races. Most of the races were connected between two major cities in Europe or France. It was an most successful racing even but as every good thing has to come to an end this racing even to was stopped in 1903.
Racing and rally events being at its infancy, not many precautionary measures was taken in these racing events resulting in series of fatal crashes killing drivers and spectators. These incidents led to the ban of open-road racing from the government of France.
Single-Seater Racing
This type of racing was the most popular among the people. The racing cars used for this event were designed to be a single seater. These cars were designed with an aerodynamic approach to it so that the wheels of the cars would still be in the grounded even in greater speeds.
Generally this type of race is held in a closed track specially designed for the racing purpose. One of the finest examples of single seater racing is the most popular Formula One which includes an annual world championship. Leading car manufacturers are attracted towards such championships which also includes a superior technological battle. In the U.S.A racing is classified into two Champ Cars and Indy Racing League. Though both the races share the same nature, but are technologically stricter. Other than this there is other variety like kart racing. It is type of racing which uses low-cost category using minimalistic vehicles on miniature tracks.
Car Rallying
Car rallying, a racing event which is organized and driven on surfaces ranging from gravel and tarmac to snow and ice with high performance production cars. Such type of racing is structured in several stages where every contestant drives through the path which is already explored by them. The driver will be assisted by a navigator who navigates the route and has the freedom to choose the path that will take lesser time. The winner is one who reaches the destination is minimum time.
World Rally Championship or WRC is the major rally championship besides other regional rallies. Almost every country has their own national championships. Some of the popular car rallies include the Monte Carlo Rally and the Rallye San Remo.
Touring Car Racing
Touring car racing is a common term used for car racing in which heavily-modified street cars compete. It is basically a closed-circuit, sponsored, and legal form of street racing performed by professional drivers. Touring Car Racing, though an alien term for India, has its roots and has evolved from the famous National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing or NASCAR as it is popularly known. Currently Touring car racing does not have any international championship. But most of the countries have their own national championships. Some of the most esteemed Touring car racing includes British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM, German Touring Car Championship), and V8 Supercars in Australia.
Stock car racing
It is an version of Touring car racing is generally organized in ovals (a track that turns only in one direction). They are similar to production cars (car that are not modified for racing).The primary stock car racing series was used in the US NASCAR series. In this series Daytona 500 is the most popular race. Besides this, NASCAR organizes a junior stock car league called Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series for pickup truck race series. It also holds a series for modified cars called as Featherlite series. These cars receive heavy modification in terms of powerful engines, large tires, and light open-wheel bodies.
Drag racing
One of the most popular sports in America is a type of racing where the driver on a straight road covers the smaller distance in a minimum time. The cars used in the drag racing are enhanced with powerful engines and spoilers. Once the distance is covered by the driver, the braking of the car is done with the help of parachutes. Usually in drag racing it is battle between the two cars and the winner get to go to the next around. Drag racing is mostly popular in the United States.
Sports car racing
Held in a close circuit, this racing is the competition between the sports car and the prototype cars. Generally a team includes two or three drivers covering long distance. These drivers often switch driving as itrsquo;s a long distance race. Popular sports car races include the 24 hours of Le Mans and the 24 hours of Daytona.
Offroad racing
Mostly modified vehicles are used in the off-road racing (racing in the nature).This is usually a slow paced race with an importance given to maneuvering the treacherous terrains. They are the most adventurous and exciting type of racing. In north of America, this type of race is conducted in the deserts. Dakar rally and Baja 1000 is the best example of off-road racing. Here in India Mahindra and Mahindra organizes off roading events like The Mahindra Great Escape and Budweiser challenge.
