Nano is Ready to Hit Indian Roads

The Tata Nano is one the most eagerly awaited cars in the world. Car lovers are really impressed with the small car. International car companies drooled over the Nano and congratulated the maker for managing to create car without compromising on Quality.

Tata Motors started the Nano project five years ago. The Nano helped to open a new segment of consumers. The wonder car of Tata is yet to roll out for mass and the company is busy preparing to launch it in a grand fashion. The Nano is expected to hit the roads in October during the Diwali and Ramzan festival. The best part of Nano is that it comes at a factory price of Rs 1 lakh.

Tata Motors has decided to base the production of the Nano at it plant in Ranjangaon in Pune. This plant will be manufactured in the production bases at Singur in West Bengal and Pantanagar in Uttarakhand. The company hopes to keep the prices low by cutting down on transportation costs.

The three plants will form a triangle and will help cover most parts of India. The Singur plant, once operational, will be a hub for the Eastern and North Eastern part of India. The Pantanagar plant at Uttarakhand will serve as a feeder hub for Northern regions of the country. The Ranjangaon plant will help access the western and southern regions of the country.

Tata jointly owns the Ranjangoan plant with Fiat India, which is manufacturing the small car Palio. Sources said that other cars from the Tata stable were likely to be manufactured in here. However, on the issue of distribution of Nano, Tata Motors has clarified that no guidance has been served so far.

Tata Motors is looking out for new location to base its production in different parts of the country. Tata had initially planned to make Singur its only base for production of the Nano. However, as the land dealing spiraled into a huge public debate and lengthy legal hurdles, production came to a halt. The company was then forced to develop and manufacture the Nano at the Pune plant, before it was unveiled to the world.

Tata is likely to retain Rajangaon plant for logistical purpose. The other two facilities could also become a permanent hub for the Nano production.

Tata Motors, meanwhile, is also scouting around for new locations across India to set up satellite plants, which would feed smaller towns and reduce the load on main hubs.

The trial production of the Nano was likely to begin from July while the actual production will commence in October when it is launched for mass consumption. The company is likely to begin taking bookings for Nano from this July. Tata is now one of the busiest auto companies in India as it prepares to launch the worlds wonder car.
