EXTERIOR MAINTENANCE
You are treading your car through
heavy traffic in the city and your car must have just got a little scratch. No need to worry. Minor scratches can be easily handled with a coat of wax. Regular washing and waxing of your car's exteriors keeps it healthy and bright at all times. Then comes the underbody of your car which is often neglected. With water or humidity and dust or mud everywhere, parts in this area run a high risk of getting rusted. Keeping them clean and dry is the secret to a healthy underbody of your car.
INTERIOR MAINTENANCE
The exterior looks are not the only things that matter. What's inside needs to be clean too. We often feed the seats with ice cream, coffee, pickle, pizza and more. But your car upholstery just does not need it.
Clean the interiors immediately with a vacuum cleaner. Dust is another enemy of the car interiors. A number of car cleaning agents are available. Use them regularly and your car will greet you happily. The leather and plastic in the car needs to be treated too.
STRANGE ODOURS
Strange smells coming out of your car indicate that something is wrong. The car needs to be taken to the service centre on priority as this could help save time and money. Remove the floor carpet and dry up both the carpet and floor when your car smells stale. If you smell something electrical, immediately open the bonnet and disconnect the
batteries. Next, seek professional help. If you smell a sweatish smell, it means that the varnish is getting burnt. This occurs when your dynamo or alternator is about to pack up and is usually accompanied by flickering lights. Take the car to the service centre. Burning rubber smell indicates overheated tyres or when you drive with the brakes on.
CAR ENGINE
Your car engine may be guaranteed to last a lifetime. But, it should never be overburdened or overheated. Take it for regular service, especially in summer when it needs to stay cool. It will return the happiness by giving you a great drive. A good engine oil too will help keep the
engine healthy.
TYRES
Listen to your car tyres. They are the ones facing maximum damage when you speed on a road filled with potholes. Keep the air pressure up to the level recommended by the car maker. Both low and high pressure can come in the path of smooth driving. Balance and rotate the
tyres and maintain them periodically.
BRAKES & SUSPENSION
The suspension and brakes suffer every time you hit a bump or brake hard. Show mercy on these parts as well. Abnormal vibration of your steering, finding it hard to rotate the steering and bouncing over bumps and uneven roads only means that your car needs to be serviced. It's usually the small things that matter most and cause long-term damage to your only car. A little pampering will take care of the trouble. The
brakes need to be checked in the perspective of security too. The brake pedal shouldn't be too soft to press. Also, it shouldn't be making a squeaking noise. The accumulation of dust on the pedals can make it noisy too.
SELF HELP
There are certain
do-it-yourself tasks when it comes to car maintenance. Replacing a fused headlamp, fixing a winged mirror and cleaning the spark plugs are few tasks that will not only give you the pleasure of having fixed the trouble yourself but will also save you money. That, however, does not mean that the servicing can be neglected. The car needs to get checked regularly. It is always better to go to an authorized service centre.
ELECTRICAL CAR PARTS
Electrical components of your car need a lot of attention. The battery, for instance, cannot be brought to life all of a sudden just because you have an important meeting or a party to attend. The air-conditioning system of your car too needs a lot of care. Getting it checked while the car is taken for a service is the best that one can do.
