Honda in India
Honda made its debut in the Indian car market in December 1995. It was established as a joint venture between Honda Motor Co. Ltd., Japan and Siel Limited, a Siddharth Shriram Group company. The two companies merged together with an aim to introduce Honda's highly technological cars in the Indian car market.
The first Honda's offering to the country was the scintillating Honda City in the year 1997, a car that had revolutionized the Indian car market. Since the inception of City in India, it is considered to be one of the technological wonders in India. This car has witnessed various generations starting from the old City in1997 to the present day all-new Honda City. In all its generations, Honda City has maintained a symphony of brilliant style, excellent power output, unmatched performance, and impressive fuel efficiency.
Gradually, Honda brought in many other car models including the Honda Accord,
Honda CR-V, Honda Civic and the latest in the list Honda Civic Hybrid. The ground breaking success of all its car models put the company in the list of leading car manufacturers of the country.
Till date, Honda invested a sum of Rs 1620 Crore in the Indian car market. Today, the huge investment, the energetic approach, and the persistent efforts of Honda's team of professionals have displayed a clear picture of the vision of Soichiro.
Manufacturing and Distribution Network
At present, Honda has well-established manufacturing facilities with state-of-art machinery and a team of skilled engineers. With an investment of Rs 450 Crore, the company had established its first plant in 1997 at Greater Noida, UP. The plant at Greeenfield is also spread across a large acre of land with a production capacity of about 1,00,000 units annually. In the process of production, the company follows stringent standards of ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environment management.
Currently, Honda has about 87 facilities across 53 cities with a strong network of sales and distribution. It is also believed that all Honda dealers in India are accounted with a 3S facility that stands for sales, service, and spares. This means that through its widespread dealerships in India, Honda provides a complete range of services to its valued customers.
Honda designs and engineers the City, Civic, and Accord in the Indian facilities and the remaining two Honda car in India, the CR-V and Honda Civic Hybrid are completely imported from Honda's original destination, Japan.
Advancements and Innovations
Honda is continually moving ahead in the field of technology with a bright idea and fresh approach. The company is making big strides in developing world's first humanoid robot, christened as ASIMO. Further to that, Honda has also introduced a prototype of its own aircraft designed by a team of highly skilled engineers.
It's worth mentioning that, Honda has also introduced the G-Force Control Technology and the POLAR II. Both of these innovations by Honda marked a significant milestone in the history of car industry.
G-force control technology (G-CON) is one of Honda’s best innovations. This was introduced keeping in mind the impact of crash energy in case of an accident. The concept has been tested under real life conditions to ensure that it absorbs the crash force and keep car occupants safe. The innovation of POLAR II was inspired by the need to ensure safety for pedestrians and other vehicles sharing the road. POLAR II is a name given to the test dummies introduced by the company. These dummies are designed with real human structure with sensors that measure the impact of energy in case of an accident.
Green Conscience
Honda is widely recognized and highly acclaimed for its eco-friendly concerns. The company with its green conscience has introduced advanced technologies to ensure lower emissions. The introduction of Honda's advanced i-VTEC engine fitted in the New Honda City is a live example of Honda's green approach.
The introduction of
Honda Civic Hybrid in India is also a move to bring a green revolution to the country. With its Civic Hybrid, Honda sings the beautiful melody of nature hidden deep under the woods and enlightens the car market with a true green beauty mated with engineering excellence.
Honda is still on the same move towards a greener future with a desire to introduce more technologies and more number of cars to achieve high standards. The company also follows the same approach in various activities performed during the manufacturing process.
In response to Honda's green conscience, the company has also received an award of 'Best Brand for Eco-Friendliness' in 2008 by Auto India.
