GPS (global positioning systems) is a special kind of functional satellite navigation system found in most of the premium and executive cars. The trend is gradually shifting to sedans, SUVs, and small cars. This innovative system works in association with computer software that directs and guides the functioning of the device.

In India, the evolution of car navigation system is not old. The first entry in the Indian car industry was made by SatNav Technologies which was further followed by MapmyIndia and Blaupunkt.

SatGuide navigation system was introduced by a Hyderabad based IT company, SatNav Technologies Ltd, in collaboration with Bangalore map data. This device is tagged as India’s first navigation system.

SatGuide is intelligently designed by a group of talented engineers to help people of Bangalore to navigate around the entire city with ease and comfort of knowing each and every road as well as destination. This helps car drivers to have better concentration on roads without getting bothered about losing their way to the desired destination.

This first navigation device is linked to 24 GPS satellites orbiting around the earth. Among these 24, three of the GPS satellite sends signals to the GPS receivers installed in the navigation device to ascertain the exact location of the car. In addition, the system also has an in-built comprehensive database of around 22 categories.

The car driver or the user of this in-car navigation system has just to use his finger to press the address of his destination in the SatGuide unit. The device will automatically display the best possible route to the specified destination and will also prompt the driver through voice commands on the directions.
