Easy Steps to Install Car Speakers

Everyone is busy in his or her lives and they really prefer to relax and have a cool drive. So one of the best ways to relax and have a pleasant drive is listening to music that makes you stress free. One such attractive feature would be the music system in your car, which adds value to the car. May be you have a cool sounding audio system but the speakers do not work on well with your audio system.

When you buy a new car, you get speakers installed with them. Cars differ in speaker’s installation and they have their own distinctive type of installation. Speakers can be installed in the places like dash, doors, or a rear deck.
Some of the basic steps for speaker installation are:

bullet  When installing Dash and Door Speakers

Cars with speaker grilles that can be removed.
  • You need to check whether the speaker grilles can be levered off or unscrewed.
  • Remove the grilles using the proper tools and remove the screws that hold the speaker in place.
  • You need to disconnect the speakers attached to the factory speaker.
  • Now try to connect the speaker harness to the new speaker if it is available in your car.
  • Plug the speaker connected to the new speaker in the car.
  • Put the speaker back in the opening and re-install the same using the mounting screws.
  • Re-install the speaker grill and repeat the same procedure to other speakers also.
Tip to be followed while installing
  • You need to be careful when you are working near the windshield. If a tool slips, it could break the windshield or damage the dash.
  • While you are installing speakers in the door, make sure that the depth of the speaker will not interfere with the window once it is installed.
Cars with speaker grilles that cannot be removed
  • First check out whether grilles can be removed or not. If they cannot be removed then find out how to remove the dash pads or door panel.
  • Now cautiously remove the dash pad or door panel and set aside. Keep all the clips and screws removed in a safe place.
  • Remove the screws that hold the speaker in place and disconnect the speaker harness from the factory speaker.
  • Now connect the speaker harness (if available for your car) to the new speaker.
  • Plug the speaker harness connected to the new speaker and to the harness in the car.
  • Try to place the speaker in the opening and re-install the same by using the mounting screws.
  • Now re-install the dash pads or door panel and repeat the same steps with other speakers also.
Tip to be followed while installing
  • When removing the door panel ensure that you have removed all of the screws and clips. Screws are usually located in the armrest or inside the door latch cavity.
  • When all the screws are being removed from the door panel, lift it up carefully so that you can disconnect any wiring harnesses that may be attached.

bullet When installing Rear Deck Speakers that are top    mounted

  • Follow the same steps. Check out whether the speaker grilles can be levered off or unscrewed. Then remove the screws that hold in the speaker and disconnect the speaker harness. Connect the speaker harness (if one purchased or available) to the speaker.
  • Now you need to plug in the harness connected to the speaker to the car’s side of the harness. You need to place the speaker in the opening and re-install it using the mounting screws.
  • Re-install the speaker grill and repeat the same procedure for the other speaker also

bullet When installing Rear Deck Speakers that are    bottom mounted

  1. Remove the screws that mount the speaker in the trunk.
  2. Now unplug the factory speaker from its harness and connect the speaker harness (if one purchased or available) to the new speaker.
  3. Try to plug in the harness connected to the speaker to the car’s side of the harness.
  4. Put the speaker in the opening and mount the speaker and repeat the same procedure with the other speaker also.
  5. Finally turn on the radio and make the following checks.
  • Check for speaker operation.
  • Check for proper polarity on both speakers. To check this turn the music up to the mid-level.
  • Now use the balance control and fade the music from side to the other.
  • When both the speakers are played, it should produce full sound. If you find that the sound is fuller or has more bass then only one speaker is being played. Hence, the polarity will have to be reversed. So to overcome this problem, switch the speaker connections on one of the speakers and retry the test.
Now you might feel that it is easy to install speakers in your car, which was once a problem where you had to get it done from a car technician. Therefore, with the above steps you will be able to install car speakers all by yourself without any encumbrances.
