Brake Fluids
- Check the brake fluids, which is located at the rear of the engine. It is similar to the oil inspection in a car.
- Open the cap and remove the dipstick (also called engine oil stick) then check the level of the oil.
- Now replace the old fluid and insert the dipstick. Fill it only to the fill line. Do not overfill. Always remember to wash the hands properly after filling the brake fluids, as they are very toxic.
Transmission Fluids
- The transmission fluid used in a car is depends on the type of transmission (manual or automatic).
- If it is a manual transmission, it might be a little hard to handle. However, some cars come with a dipstick located at the back of the engine, wipe off the excess fluid, insert the dipstick again, and fill the fluid only to the fill line.
- Incase of an automatic transmission it is easy, just find the location of the dipstick and fill it only to the fill line.
Power Steering Fluids
Power steering fluid is one of the cheapest fluids. If there is a whining sound from the power steering, then it is an indication of fluid deficiency. Even after adding the fluid, if the problem still persists, then take the car to a mechanic and replace it with the new one.
Oil
It is always better to check oil level after every hundred miles. To check the oil, park the car on a flat surface. Now remove the oil dipstick, clean of the oil, and reinsert the stick. The level on the dipstick should always be at the top of the fill line.
Coolant
Always keep a check on the coolant level when the engine is cold. The coolant should always be at the minimum or top of the fill line. Also check the coolant level when the engine is hot, it should be at or just below the “max” line.
Battery Cables
Keep a check on the battery cables for corrosion. This will help an easy start and will prevent the battery from being damaged. Take a brush and clean off any white substance from the cable post.
Tyre Pressure
Keep a check on the tyre pressure. Inflated tyres helps to run the car smoothly and also arrest the overconsumption of oil. Many
new cars have a catalogue of tyre pressure requirements and this is mostly found on the driver’s side. Refer the sticker to find the right pressure. Always check the tyre pressure after a short drive and not after a long drive because it will show wrong numbers.
Air Filter
Keep the air filter clean to get good oil mileage and power in the car. If the colour of the air filters change from white to grey then replace it.
