Xenon lighting – it is clearer?

When you hear about features luxury cars these days you keep hearing about Xenon headlights (pronounced Zen-On) very often. Many wonder on what exactly is Xenon light and why is it priced so high? Many buyers want to know if it needs a special kit? Does the warranty hold good if the standard head lighting is changed to Xenon lights and other questions. It is available on all BMW cars, Mercedez Benz and other luxury cars.

The answer is that the new lighting system is more powerful than halogen headlight for cars in India. In fact Xenon lighting could improve safety and visibility for driver at night and in fog climate. Xenon is actually called the Xenon High Intensity Discharge(HID) lights. The advantages of Xenon over normal halogen lighting are that it gives a bright light similar to daytime light.

High visibility is important to prevent collision at night. According to a study it says that older people require more light while driving at night than the younger lot. It can reduce the possibility of accidents by almost half, as most are caused due to poor visibility.

bullet About Xenon (HID)

To create the daylight like effect- light bulbs are filled with Xenon gas. The bulbs use a stabilized arc of electricity to create a brighter and more focused light path. The system uses a ballast to maintain uniform voltage while being used. It gives whiter light that makes the path visibility clearer than the yellowish lights.

Vehicles fitted with these lamps are better equipped to negotiate darkness and poor climatic conditions, as compared to other car lighting systems.

bullet Halogen and Xenon

Xenon technology generates 2.5 times more light than average halogen lamps. But it draws only half the power to that of halogen lamps.

This technology provides low beam lighting which is brighter and has a wider illumination with a longer range. The lighting moves in direction of the bend or curve giving a clear visibility.

Xenon lighting is currently the most advanced car lighting system in the world. Halogen lights have a lifespan. They are also use filaments like domestic bulbs which emit less light.

The white light is created when electricity is discharged between two electrodes in a micro environment of Xenon gas. The lighting is sealed tightly in a quartz capsule. To create the required arc, a sophisticated electronic control module is installed.

bullet Bi-Xenon

Xenon light also known as Bi-Xenon lights were introduced in cars in 1999 and were followed by a swiveling Bi-Xenon system in 2003. With this technology, the headlamps lighting followed the steering wheel movements while steering in curves. With its sharp low beam lighting and wider illumination the path was clearly visible.

No longer does the driver need to negotiate blind corners as he drives through hilly areas and sharp curves. This reduces the risk of accidents occurring in darkness. The driver can also enjoy a easy driving experience without bothering about the dark corners. Maybe the Xenon lights could be the key to higher re-sale value of cars in India.
