Inspection and Maintenance
SAFE organizes campaigns and seminars to promote awareness on the significance of vehicular maintenance. The organization since its inception have emphasized on spreading the need of a cleaner environment and safer roads by periodic maintenance of vehicles.
SAFE also organizes various inspection clinics and training workshops across the country to inspect in-use vehicles and train pollution checking technicians respectively. After inspection and pollution check, it also issues a PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate for compliant vehicles.
According to SAFE, periodic maintenance of the vehicle also ensures reduced fuel consumption and reduced emissions. In order to fulfil its commitment of reducing pollution, the organization also developed a computerised PUC system that was first introduced in Kolkata for petrol vehicle coinciding with the celebration of Environment Day. These computerized systems are designed on international systems to ensure credibility and acceptance of the PUC certificates.
Road Safety AwarenessRoad safety is also a significant arena where the SAFE along with SIAM desires to play an active role. According to the World Bank reports, about 1 Lakh people were killed on Indian roads in 2007. It is estimated that the road accidents in the country affect its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The primary factors contributing to road accidents are peculiar traffic condition, increasing number of on-road vehicles, and poor quality of Indian roads.
SAFE with a desire to create awareness of various issues related to road safety conducts various programmes, seminars, and conferences. It tries to inculcate road safety habits in the entire populace especially school children and also impart education in terms of traffic rules and regulation that are must to be followed for enhanced safety on road.
All the education and knowledge is imparted by the use of audio-visual aids, live demonstrations, and significant interaction through quizzes and discussions. SAFE also conducts educational trips for school children when they are taken to various manufacturing facilities to make them aware of their significant role in influencing a change in driving and road safety habits in adults.
Today, many car manufacturers including the market leader
Maruti Suzuki are heading ahead with their own initiatives to improve road safety. Maruti has opened various driving schools and institutes across the country to impart driving training to all those who desire to learn using advanced technologies.
Driver Training ProgrammesAccording to
SIAM, number of road accidents is also increasing due to high stress levels and low self esteem. With this, the organization feels the need to touch the psychological aspects and impart training for the development of soft skills. The training mainly focuses on the driver's involvement in his or her personal as well as professional life. It works in a way that drivers can better and confidently handle stress when behind the wheel.
In addition, it also provides training on driving skills under various traffic and road conditions. It includes all kind of training including tight corner turning, easy manoeuvrability, highway driving, and handling difficult driving situations like under severe weather conditions.
