Top Five Cars Featured In Bond Movies

“The name is Bond, James Bond..”, black bow tie, a Walther PP pistol, and the background score. It has been the sequence from the first Bond movie till the most recent. The handsome, intelligent Bond remains incomplete without his stunning post modern cars. Bond cars are fast, exotic cars installed with ultra modern technologies. Most Bond cars are modified Bond versions of a standard model from the manufacturers. The hot car chase scenes and stunts performed by Bond in his ultra modern cars are enough for viewers to slip to the edge of their seats and tighten their hold on the hand rests.

Bond's fast cars always had importance in the story line. The directors of the movies spend a lot of time deciding the model and its customisation to suit the story and the new Bond actor's personality. Here is a look at the Top 5 Bond models from the entire series of 22 James Bond movies.

bullet Aston Martin DB5

The Aston Martin DB5 is the most famous Aston Martin model because of the specially equipped Silver Birch DB5 that James Bond used in the movie “Goldfinger”, which was released in 1964. Aston Martin DB5 was an upgraded version of DB4. The DB series was named after the head of Aston Martin during that period, David Brown. The DB5 was born to drive on a wide-open road, with a wide-open throttle. That's when the car's unique appeal started to come through. Installed with a 6 cylinder, 4-litre engine that generates a maximum power of 282 bhp and a maximum torque of 390 Nm @ 3850 rpm, this metal was a stunning performer of the time.

bullet Toyota 2000 GT Convertible

A Japanese car for Bond? Yes, it happened. Toyota has never produced the convertible version of 2000 GT for sale to the public. The only two convertible variants made were for the Bond movie “You Only Live Twice.” Back in the late ‘60s the Toyota 2000 GT was a really special, genuinely futuristic car that used a 2.0-litre, straight six cylinder engine, producing around 150 bhp. Toyota produced only 351 2000 GT coupe models, much like an Italian speciality sports car construction.

bullet Ford Mustang Mach 1

A magnificent piece of automobile engineering, the Mustang Mach 1, cornered like a Stannah Stairlift and accelerated about as fast. Painted in a burnt orange colour, the Mustang was heavier than the moon, and better known as the Fast And The Furious orange Ford. The Ford Mustang Mach 1 was a performer model of the Ford Mustang that was produced in early 1969. This metal was the performance package, fitted with a 2.8L V6 rated at 105 bhp. The car featured in the 1971 Bond movie “Diamonds Are Forever”. This Mustang makes the list because this is the car that Bond flips onto two wheels to thread the eye of a Las Vegas alleyway during a high speed pursuit, proving that 007 can indeed defy the laws of physics. A breathtaking piece of a stunt not over performed.

bullet BMW Z8

Produced by the German luxury car manufacturer BMW from 2000 to 2003, the Z8 is the perfect accomplice for Bond and his missions. Its 400 bhp V8 engine, lifted from the previous M5, sits in a lightweight aluminium frame which endows it with a tremendous power-to-weight ratio; it can sprint from rest to 62 mph in 4.7 secs before hitting its electronic brick wall at 155 mph. The ultra rare BMW Z8, featured in the movie “The World Is Not Enough”. It does not make it into the list of the most masculine cars used by Bond, but it still occupies a safe spot on the list of most famous Bond cars as this car is the only Bond vehicle to get sawn in half, lengthways, and meet a sticky end due to a helicopter cradling giant metal teeth of doom.

bullet BMW 750iL

The most gadget-laden Bond car in the history of gadget-laden Bond cars is the BMW 750iL, which was featured in the movie “Tomorrow Never Dies”. From the top, the 750iL sports a rocket-launcher sunroof, a tack-dispensing rear bumper, re-inflating tyres, indestructible body armour with a high voltage electric current running through it, an on-board computer, and a cable cutter hidden under the BMW logo on the bonnet. 007 could control the vehicle using a remote control built in to his Sony Ericsson phone, which he did for the duration of a highly improbable car chase. It was never mentioned how long the phone could go between charges, but considering it also had a fingerprint scanner, I bet he had to plug it in every night. Strangely, it didn’t have a colour screen!

These make the Top 5 Bond cars and the list continues as there is no end for Bond movies and technologically advanced super cars. The anticipation for the next Bond car will always remain for auto enthusiasts worldwide.
