Fiat Prepares To Rollout Jeep Grand Cherokee And Impress Indians

Jeep is known to Indians as a tough looking off road vehicle which has the guts and flexibility to take on any kind of terrain. But most Indians are not aware of Jeep as a brand that is dedicated to manufacturing such rugged SUVs. As a part of Chrysler Group, Jeep is all set to introduce itself as a brand in Indian market in the years to come. This will happen through strategic partner of Chrysler Group, Fiat. Fiat also holds about 62% of shares in Chrysler Group which owns Jeep brand. Two leading off roaders in from Jeep, namely the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler may land on Indian soil in 2013 or 2014.

Jeep Grand Cherokee is a mid size SUV which possesses engines that produce great power under the hood and is built to capable in any driving condition. The all wheel drive train with customizable torque distribution feature, flexible air suspensions system and rigid chassis give commanding position to the driver while seated in Jeep Grand Cherokee. The capable and premium SUV will be positioned in upper scale having a heavy price tag of about Rs 40 lakh. This is because the vehicle will be arriving to India as a Completely Built Unit which increases taxes levied on the SUV.

Power Train and Performance

Jeep Grand Cherokee is available in many engine options globally. The vehicle is expected to come out with a 3L, V6, diesel engine in India. This engine is developed by VM Motori and Fiat uses Multijet II technology to improve performance, fuel efficiency and reduce NVH levels. The torque on crank shaft is as heavy as 440 Nm at 1600 rpm to 1800 rpm. The maximum power from this engine comes up to 188 bhp. The turbocharged engine is built with a variable geometry turbocharger to deliver optimum torque whenever desired and reduce fuel consumption while doing so. The suspension system uses air for absorbing shocks from bad roads. The torque distribution and suspension behavior can be set the driver using tools like Selec Trac and Selec Terrain that come in Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Exterior

The exterior structure of Jeep Grand Cherokee carries the DNA of Jeep visible in a premium outfit. The vertically divided trademark grille is made of chrome and the slim eye like headlights seat neatly beside the grille. The wheel arches are squarish in shape and muscle out of the overall body to showcase the ability of Jeep Cherokee. The entire body carries black border at bottom which goes along well with the overall design. The roofline extends till the rear and has spoilers which point out backwards. Chrome coating is given to door handles, side body cladding and rear lid openers.

Interior

The cabin of Jeep Grand Cherokee has room for 5 and is built with premium quality materials. Uconnect a product from Jeep comes as standard in an infotainment system which has colour display. The seats are mould to give best possible comfort to passengers with enough shoulder room and thigh support. The dashboard has simple design where wood decors flow over the body and continue over doors. Automatic air conditioner comes as standard feature in Jeep Grand Cherokee. As a 5 seater vehicle with abundant interior space, the SUV also has plenty of room for luggage. The rear seats are flexible to be folded down and increase this already huge boot space.
