Nissan, a Japanese car manufacturer, was established on December 26, 1933 with its headquarters in Tokyo. The company employs round about 31,453 employees on non-consolidated basis and about 180,535 employees on consolidate basis. Since its establishment in the country,
Nissan Motors has rolled out several
new cars on the roads there coupled with a massive number of profit gaining plans.
Years after its venture in Japan, one bright day Nissan realized that India is a market of new opportunities for the company. After a good research and study on the Indian car market, Nissan decided to go on a tour to India.
Nissan’s first footprint in India was found in 2004 when the company entered the country with its successful
SUV, Nissan X-Trail. This is a compact SUV that has broken all records in the global market. The key factors contributed to the success of X-Trail include excellent on-road performance, plush interiors and world class 4x4 capabilities. In addition, powerful 2.2 litre dCi diesel engine, washable rear luggage board, and ingenious practical touches like the chilled drink holders brings extra charm to the Nissan car.
The winning attributes of the car has also brought a pack of awards including ‘Internet Car of the Year' in Japan, ‘Best Recreational Vehicle' in the UK, ‘Best Small SUV' in Dubai, and ‘Best Product for Customers' in Mexico.
After the launch of X-Trail, Nissan made other smart moves in the country to strengthen its presence and establish a strong vendor base. In the year 2007, Nissan Teana was also launched with a big bang. This car was completely imported from Japan with a perfect blend of balanced proportion, futuristic luxury interior, riding comfort, and excellent performance. The strong and smooth 2349cc VQ23DE V6 petrol engine also contributes majorly to the attractiveness of the car. Teana’s engine is renowned as one of the ‘Ten Best Engines’ by Ward's Auto World magazine for 13 consecutive years.
Apart from car launches, Nissan is also making other assiduous efforts to have a stronger hold in the Indian market. The company has signed a joint venture with Renault Motors to enter the segment of light commercial vehicles for the country. With the alliance partnership, both the companies also tend to solve the scarcity of their models. Ghosn, chief executive of Nissan, also announced that the alliances are planning to team up with Indian car manufacturers for further growth. With a stronger hold on technicalities of auto components, the venture also desires to start the production of vehicles in the Indian factory.
Nissan also signed a partnership with Ashok Leyland, Hinduja Group, to expand its base in the promising Indian market. This venture was signed with an aim to show the company’s presence in all ranges.
Thereafter, Bajaj Auto, a leading two-wheeler manufacturer, also joined hands with the Nissan-Renault venture. This alliance partnership took place recently with a firm decision to introduce an ultra-low cost car in competition to the proposed Tata Nano. The venture plans to use Bajaj’s land in Pune to set up the low-cost project and design the car in Renault’s Designing Center in India. With the initial production capacity of four lakh units, the Nano competitor is expected to roll out by 2011.
Further to that, Nissan Motors also has plans to roll out eight new car models on Indian roads. Since its first début in India, Nissan Motors had witnessed a growth of 216% within a span of four years of its presence. The sales figure has continuously increased with sales of 160 units in 2005, 250 units in 2006, and 506 units in 2007.
Nissan’s journey from Japan to India proved to be a big success and now the company plans to end up the tour and set up a new base in India.
