Festive Season for the Indian Car Industry

Festive Season for the Indian Car Industry

Since the first car rolled out on Indian roads, the automobile industry has reported an increasing sale during the festive season. Dusshera and Diwali reported the highest percentage of car sales in the 2007 fiscal year, as these are the most popular Hindu festivals celebrated in India, and closely timed to Ramadan, followed by Christmas. It’s again that time of the year when the downpour of offers will start and continue through the festive season raining discounts and specials.

Festival time is always a good time to buy new cars and other vehicles. Traditionally all car manufacturers offer schemes, discounts, and free gifts to lure waning customers. Following the scheme from manufacturers, financiers and car dealers also add some special packages to make the offers more attractive. A combination of these packages entices car buyers and pushes them to buy a new car for the new festive year.

Since centuries, car manufacturers are applying the discount rule during festivals to their car sale strategies but this time it’s a tough challenge. The current fiscal year has nose-dived in the past couple of months after three continuous years of success. This reduced car sale is because of high inflation, rising fuel prices, and high car production costs. To fight the slowdown, car majors have again took the festive route to tap the market.

This time, the car industry has tapped the female section of society by offering gold and diamonds along with car purchases. Another part of festive marketing strategy is free gifts including MP3 players, silver plates, free insurance, and free car accessories for buyers.

Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) will give a free gold coin with its entire range of cars excluding the Hyundai i10 AT and Getz 1.5 CRDi and an additional MP3 music system on the purchase of the Hyundai Verna or Hyundai Getz. People planning to buy one of the most reliable compact cars, Hyundai Santro, will get free car insurance along with a glittering gold coin. The company also gives excellent exchange discounts for both Hyundai and non-Hyundai cars. According to the company, these offers and discounts are an integral part of their successful decade-long operations in the country.

Ford India is also raining Tanishq diamonds on the purchase of its new face-lifted Ford Fiesta. The company will give a diamond worth Rs 20,000 to all customers who buy the new Fiesta. Some cash incentives for public sector buyers and corporate buyers are also in store for the festive season.

Maruti Suzuki, leading Indian car manufacturer, will give straight cash discounts on the purchase of a Maruti Suzuki SX4, Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo, or the famous Maruti Alto. These cars will now be available at a discount that range from Rs 30,000 for the SX4 to Rs 11,000 for the WagonR to Rs 15,000 for the Zen Estilo to Rs 4,000 for the sweet and small Alto.

As other car manufacturers are eyeing the festive season for better sales, General Motors also announces schemes and offers to lure customers. The biggest discount of Rs 58,000 is given for their peppy hatchback, Chevrolet Spark. Even the car warranty has been increased from one year to three years or 100,000 kms. GM will also give cash discounts of Rs 27,000 on the Chevrolet U-VA, Rs 28,000 on the Chevrolet Aveo, Rs 28,000 on the Chevrolet Optra Magnum, and Rs 46, 000 on the Chevrolet Tavera. The company may also give combo package deals to attract more numbers and push dropping car sales.

Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) has entered the discount market for the first time. The company waives 50% car insurance premium on its popular sedans, the Honda City ZX and Honda Civic. Apart from this, the company will also offer a comprehensive combination of warranty and service packages.

The Indian car market has high hopes for this festive season. Manufacturers of cars and car equipments are expecting to see good sales record. So await the festive season that will spread Holiday Cheer all around!
