Keep Eyes Open to Top 15 Traffic Violations

The Indian Road Traffic rules are titled as "Rules of the Road Regulation". These rules are relevant to all Indian drivers, whether two, three, or four wheel. The key factors that contributed to the introduction of these rules were driver’s safety and organized traffic.

According to Motor Vehicle Act, violations of these rules are punishable offenses that are enforced either by issuing challans or through imprisonment. Violations can be anything ranging from over speed and reckless driving to drunken driving and parking in the no-zone parking areas.
Compiled here is a listing of top 15 traffic violations that are punishable transgressions:
Driving a vehicle without a valid driving license. Don’t try to take any short cuts to make a valid license. A valid license is applicable only at an age of 18. Driving below an age of 18 is also an offense.

Allowing a vehicle to be driven on road without a Registration Certificate (RC). This is an important document. In case anyone is caught breaking traffic rules and not carrying an RC, the driver can get into a big trouble.

Driving without carrying important documents like the insurance paper and PUC (Pollution under Control) certificate. Every car owner should carry these relevant documents everytime he drives a car.

Driving at Speeds that exceed limits. According to road rules, the maximum speed limit is about 60 km/h and driving over the speed limit is not only an offense but also increases the risk of accidents.

Using dazzling lights while driving. Avoid improper use of headlights and taillights. This obstructs the path of other drivers sharing the road.

Using auto horns in a prohibited area especially near a hospital and church is an offense.

Driving a car in the wrong direction on a one way or plying into a No Entry zone. This may cause severe road accidents.

Not obeying traffic signs and signals is the most punishable offense. Traffic signals are not just for show, they are for the safety of all drivers and vehicles running on road. These also help to ensure orderly traffic.

Reckless driving and failing to decelerate the car at intersections.

Smoking in the car while driving and drunken driving majorly results in imprisonment as this is one of the most punishable offenses.

Car emitting excess of smoke is not accepted by traffic authorities. It’s always good to undergo an emission test at regular intervals.

Parking the car in no car parking areas or in the middle of the road, impedimenting the normal flow of traffic.

Driving with a mobile phone cradle to the ear. Mobile phones are the biggest culprit of car accidents because they cause distraction while driving. To ensure safe driving, the traffic authorities have banned the use of mobile phones while driving.

Worn out tyres is also a traffic violation. Such tyres often cause a tyre puncture or tyre burst and this leads to a big crash if the car is being driven at a high speed.

Driving without side mirrors and wipers. Along with this driving the car fitted with dark glasses and sun films is also an offense.

Most often, people feel exempted on paying a fine or challan after violating a traffic rule. Unfortunately, the same violations are repeated time and again by the same offenders. Rather, people should learn a lesson after paying a fine and ensure that they do not repeat the same mistake again.
Rules of the Road Regulations are for your safety and the safety of others. So follow the rules and make the roads a safe place to drive on.
