Driving at night needs more skill than driving by the day. People should always be extra - cautious while driving at night. As per the National Safety Council, traffic death rates are three-fold while compared to the traffic related deaths during the day. In spite of this large number in the death rates, people are still unaware of the measures to be taken while driving during the night and what needs to be done if something goes wrong, rather than complaining about bad luck.
It is very evident that the darkness is a major factor that makes driving at night more dangerous. One should not only be careful about the way they drive, but there are certain other factors too that needs to be taken care of while driving at night.
During the night, vision becomes limited leaving the drivers unaware of things that might be just in front of them. Under the cover of darkness, it would be very difficult to determine the objects at what proximity they are to the vehicle. Old drivers need to really careful as they would find it difficult to see things properly and might find it very stressful for the eyes to drive at night. For that matter not only old, but people with poor eye sight will also find it really difficult to drive during night.
People tend to go for long distance drives during the night because they want to cover a long distance at a short period of time as the traffic would be comparatively less during the wee hours, but driving at a high speed can also cause accidents. More accidents take place on weekend nights compared to other days of a week because of the careless driving as most of them will be in a relaxing mood.
Doesn’t it seem to be really confusing and scary? Well, actually it is not what it looks like and you can really be very safe if you are a little careful and do not underestimate
driving at night.
- Before going for a night drive always get your car ready for it by cleaning the tail lights, windows, headlights, and signal lights. Unclean glass will not give the passengers a clear outside view.
- People tend to drink during night and sometimes just a single drink can take you away from your senses. So if drunk do not ever drive. Because it might hamper one’s ability to drive and make you feel really depressed. If drunk ask someone else to drive the vehicle and by doing so you might be saving yourselves from an accident. Drinking can also cause fatigue.
- Not only does drinking, but smoking is also not advisable during night drive. The smoke contains nicotine and carbon monoxide which will not give a clear vision during night.
- Aim the headlight of the vehicle suitably so that it will not tamper your vision and blind other drivers. And the light from the headlight should be falling on the road and not on the face of the driver who is coming in the opposite direction.
