Driving in Indian summer is almost impossible without an air conditioner in the car. Due to global warming, the atmospheric temperature is increasing every year and meteorological departments continue to give higher warm temperatures stats. In this scenario AC has become an inevitable car accessory.
There are different types of AC available in the market. They can be broadly classified into three categories as basic model, HVAC and automatic.
Basic model (Unidirectional Blower)
Basic model (Multi-flow Blower)
HVAC
Automatic AC
Using an AC
Driving with an AC:The air conditioning functions best when the engine runs fast. It is directly proportionate to the engine rpm. Driving slowly will heat up the AC and lower its performance.
Frost in evaporator: Frost or icing is formed when the AC is set at its lowest for long hours. The evaporator gets clogged with icing and air circulation is stopped. This results in drop of blower speeds and rise in cabin temperature.
Setting the AC as per passenger seating will cool the required space only. If there are more than two passengers, the blower should be directed through the centre of the dashboard for rear seat passengers. Installing an AC for the rear seat passengers is more useful.
Getting an air conditioner fitted is easy. But the driver/owner should also take care to maintain the AC and have periodical servicing done in order to prevent clogging by dust and other particles. This will ensure cool driving for several years to come!
