Ford Ka

Launched in 1996, the
Ford Ka was extensively compared with the iconic Volkswagen Beetle. In the beginning, Ford Ka was produced as a single model, with a range of production options including air conditioning, power steering, height-adjustable driver's seat, adjustable position rear seat with head restraints, passenger airbag, central locking and power windows. An anti-lock braking system option was added in January 1997. Ford Ka enjoys immense popularity in United Kingdom, but has not been introduced in the U.S because Ford felt that the SUV loving Americans would not accept it.
The Bollore Blue Car

Resulting from the joint venture between Bollore and electricite de France, the Bollore Blue Car is a small electric car designed by the battery manufacturer, batScap. Though it is one of the
smallest cars around, you should not make any hasty judgments about the speed of the car. The Bollore Blue car can cruise at a speed of about 80 mph and offers about 155 miles of operating range. And if you want to fully charge the car, you must keep at least 6 hours of your day free to charge the car. Unfortunately, the car is available only in France.
The Think City

The Norwegian based company, Think Global, makes electric cars under the THINK brand. The company has been trying to launch the car in the US for some time now. Initially, Think City was supposed to be launched during 2009, but due to recession and the consequent financial crunch, production was stopped. Along with Tesla Roadster and
Mitsubishi i MiEV, the Think City is one of the world's only three crash tested and highway certified electric cars as of mid-2010.
The Daihatsu Copen

First showcased at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show, the Daihatsu Copen was launched in 2001 in Japan. The 2-door roadster with an aluminium retractable hardtop is extremely compact and comfortable. It is a pity that the tiny car is available only in Japan and few of the European countries.
The Smart Fortwo

The Smart Fortwo is a rear-engined two-seater microcar manufactured by Smart GmbH, and was introduced at the 1998 Paris Motor Show. Initially known as the Smart City Coupe, The Smart Fortwo was launched in 1998 and became instantly popular. In 2008, the company brought in another version, called the Fortwo Ed, of the car which is completely electric. This small car is environment friendly and extremely easy to maneuver. Currently available in the US only, the company is planning to expand production in other countries too.
The Kandi Coco

The Kandi Coco is available only in Oklahoma, and is quite inexpensive actually. The electric car was launched in the US in 2009. The two-seater car has a top speed of just about 25 mph. The car offers a range of about 50 to 60 miles per charge, and needs to be charged, should we say, twice a day. And though it is a low speed vehicle, it can still satisfy your short distance transportation needs.

The Tango by Commuter Cars

The Tango is an ultra-narrow electric sports car that was originally designed by Commuter Cars, which was founded by Rick Woodbury over 11 years back. Each ear wheel has its own electric motor which makes it possible for the car to run at a speed of 60 mph in about 4 seconds after starting it. Considering the
price of the car, estimated at 121,000 dollars, the Tango flopped even though it was greatly promoted by Hollywood actor George Clooney.
The Lumeneo Smera

The ultra-small Battery electric vehicle (BEV), SMERA, was launched recently by French car manufacturer, Lumeneo. With a length of 2.50 metres and width of 86 cm, it is one of the smallest and narrowest cars available. Priced at estimated at $33,000, the car is available only in France as of now. But sources reveal that the car maker is planning to launch the Smera to European residents in the upcoming months.
The ElBil Norge Buddy Cab

The Buddy Cab, manufactured by Norwegian based electric car company ElBil Norge, is the sixth generation of the Kewet electric vehicle that was launched in 1991. With a maximum speed of 80 km/hour, the car's range varies between 20-60 km depending on season, topography and driving style. The car is very well liked by people and the company has already sold more than 1000 units over the years.
