The Ten Ugliest Cars of All Time

There are some cars, so beautiful, that you just can't take your eyes off them. Some others are so repulsive that you just don't want to set your eyes on them. Here's a brief of ten of the most hideously ill-proportioned cars of all time. If beauty is the winner, these cars sure aren't stealing the show.

bullet Chrysler Airflow

Chrysler AirflowThis Chrysler car is far from beautiful. But, the ugliest aspect was the spectacularly bad timing of the car's launch. It was 1934 and the world was in the midst of a deep economic depression. While the idea behind the Airflow may be good, its execution was just plain ugly. The car tried to show the world what was in the future. For whatever reason, the public shied away from the "new-as-tomorrow" car. At the time, people thought, nice try; call us again when you have a winner.

bullet Mohs Ostentatiene Opera Sedan

Mohs Ostentatiene Opera SedanThis is perhaps the strangest car ever produced. Just three or four units of the eight seater were built every year. The three-ton monster sat on a chassis built to industrial truck specifications and carried a V8 engine that was used in farm equipment. It had just one door, minivan style, rolled on 20-inch wheels with nitrogen filled tires, and was available with Ming-Dynasty style oriental rugs. It also featured a power retractable hardtop, a Naugahyde covered body, and available butane furnace, television sets and dual refrigerators. It was obscenely hideous.

bullet Nissan Cube

Nissan CubeThe Cube is plain ugly. When it comes to being practical, the Nissan car has outstanding features giving it more than just an advantage. But, the theme on the Cube is asymmetry and nothing shows up more than the varied windows on the car - especially at the back. A Cube ad said "Humans aren't symmetrical why should their cars be?" The predominantly square-like aspects of the Cube's body have rounded off edges that give it the repulsive appearance.

bullet Aurora Safety Car

Aurora Safety CarThe intentions were good, but the outcome was bad. Passenger and pedestrian safety was the only concern while designing the car. Appearance was an afterthought. The Aurora has been summoned by many as the ugliest vehicle of all time. Safety features of this hideous creation include; safety belts - rare in 1957, foam filled bumpers mounted on gas shocks, roll over bars built into the dome roof, and a telescopic steering column. The rounded windscreen was anticipated to eliminate the need for windscreen wipers.

bullet Bricklin SV-1

Bricklin SV-1The front end is squared like a dreadful dress shoe, is wider than the driver's cabin, and rises high before sloping down dramatically, giving it a front-heavy, unstable appearance. This acrylic plastic bodied Bricklin SV-1 (Safety Vehicle 1) sports car looks more like a kit car; a car where a set of parts are bought and then assembled by the buyer himself. It was made of brightly colored, dent-resistant plastic, like play school furniture. The car did not have an ashtray to discourage smoking. The hand-removing, 45 kg gullwing doors were known to come crashing down when the support struts failed. They sure do not exemplify safety.

bullet Cadillac Seville Elegante

Cadillac Seville EleganteThe 1976 Cadillac Seville was Detroit's first response to the growing popularity of luxury imports like Mercedes. Although it was an immediate hit, earning a handsome profit and inspiring numerous imitators, the Seville marked the beginning of the end of Cadillac's credibility as "the standard of the world." The optional Seville Elegante package included two-tone paint, wire wheels, and plusher interior trim; it was quite expensive and accounted for less than 10 per cent of sales. The car is far from elegant though.

bullet Fiat Multipla

Fiat MultiplaThe car is bug-eyed, broad-beamed and has a bulging waist. It sure will not win any beauty pageant, but the Fiat's Multipla is packed with character. The stumpy, jug-eared car has great features that many say that it has got star potential written all. Coming to the looks, it has wide, blank eyes set over a grille so slack-jawed you almost expect it to drop off. At the rear too, the car has no splendor whatsoever. Around its middle, the Fiat car brags a waist, of sorts that fat men have when they do their belts up too tightly.

bullet Ford Probe

Ford ProbeThe Ford Probe was a car that managed to look both ugly and bland. It combined the dullness of the every-sports-coupe profile with soft, amorphous lines and an unsightly front-end look that could be given the name "plastic aggression." During its launch, the sports coupe market was ferocious, and the Probe was competing with much slicker pieces of machinery. The Ford car looked like it had been brutally beaten with an ugly stick.

bullet Saab Sonett

Saab SonettThe Saab Sonett reminds everyone of the handsomely awkward fiberglass design. The name Sonett means "So-neat" in Swedish. Sadly, the world at large wasn't ready for a 1,300 pound Swedish roadster powered by a 57 bhp two-stroke 748 cc three-banger. Very few units of this car were built and still fewer survived in running condition. That tells us all about the car and its beauty.

bullet Saab 900

Saab 900The no new-shape Saab 900 was pretty from no angle, but one would pay for the brand's sound reputation. The car, however, is reliable and built to last. The unusual car has an unusually long front end gives the car it's not-so-appealing looks. The car's performance was amazing, aesthetics being the only drawback. The car was thus known to be the solid and ugly one from Saab's stables.
