Top 10 Tips to Repair Tubeless Tyre Puncture

Tubeless tyre is a special type of tyre that has gained prominence in the recent years. These days it has become standard in all the B-Segment cars. These are the tyres without the tube and contain air within. It has a halo- or chloro-butyl airtight lining on its inside and an airtight joint between the tyre and the wheel.

As these don’t have tubes within, they are much different in dynamics, maintenance, and repair techniques as compared to the normal car tyres.
Here are some tips to repair puncture of tubeless tyres:
First thing to do is to collect the tyre repair kit that includes a spiral content tool, needle, vulcanizing fluid, T-shaped handle tool, Permacure rubber plug, and Allen Key. Spiral Tool is used to drive into the puncture to prepare it for insertion of the fluid or repair strip. Needle is used to locate the torn out area, handle tool for applying repair strings to the tyre, vulcanizing fluid to fill the patches of the tyres, and Permacure rubber plug for insertion. Above all, the most essential tool is the Allen Key, a simple but functional tool used to drive bolts and screws with hexagonal sockets in the head.

Once you have all the materials and components required for repair, locate the tear in the tyre and pull out the felonious nail. Use the tip of the spiral tool to determine the direction of the tear.

Then cement the visible area with the vulcanizing fluid moving your hands in a clockwise rotation. Apply two or three coats to ensure proper sealing of the tyres. Even a tiny and invisible hole left over can leak out air from the tyres.

Then insert the Permacure rubber plug in the tyre using a needle and the T-shaped handle tool. Usage of the handle tool helps for better leverage. You can even use a little quantity of the fluid to ensure smoothness during insertion of the repair strips to the punctured tyres.

Place the needle tip in line with the open abrasion and then gradually push the needle deep through the tyres until only twenty five percent of the inserted needle is left over the tyre tread surface.

Once you feel that the rubber plug is secured, pull out the needle and allow the tyre to seal.

Then inflate the tyre and inspect for more leaks.

You can now check out for more repairs and can even pull out the visible portion of the Permacure plug.

If the puncture is too big and has not completely sealed by using one rubber plug, follow the same procedure to insert another rubber plug at the point of air seepage.

Before placing the tyre back to its operation, ensure that it is completely sealed and there are no leaks.

However, tubeless tyres are in the auto industry since 1950s but in India, these tyres stumbled upon with the advent of new technologies and new cars in 1990s. Though late, the entry of these tyres has revolutionized the segment and helped improve car performance and stability, and fuel efficiency.
