Exterior Design and Styling
The design philosophies of the two SUVs are very much obvious and definite. Mitsubishi Outlander is ardently designed with a sober look blended with perfect tones and bulges. It looks taller and narrower than the CR-V but is of the same height. The only feature that gives the Outlander a taller look is the upright stance and the huge ground clearance. Other features that add to the beauty of the rocking Outlander are two-part grille, shapely headlamps, and the silver skid plate.
Comparatively, Honda CR-V has a coupe like appeal that complements its low stance. It is given a car like appearance rather than a SUV appeal because it has better on-road credentials.
Interior Elegance and Comfort
The Mitsubishi Outlander has better rooms as compared to the CR-V. Even the driver’s seat as well as the front passenger’s seat is well bolstered and comfortable in comparison to the car seat of Honda CR-V. When coming to the central console and dashboard, it is higher and more impressive in the Outlander with a pseudo carbon-fiber console. The integrated music system, the nine speakers Rockford Fosgate, is another elegant feature that rates the Outlander higher than the CR-V.
Honda CR-V is designed with a better finished and spacious interiors but the simple car audio system reduces the score of the car.
In terms of rear space and luggage room, both the cars have nearly about equal space and even the rear seat can be folded to liberate more space.
Engine Technology and Performance
Mitsubishi Outlander is available in a petrol engine of 2.4L MIVEC I4 engine that delivers 168bhp of power. The 6-speed INVECS-III CVT coupled with a 6-speed manual mode further boasts the performance of the car engine.
On the other hand, Honda CR-V is a mid-sized SUV that is available with an option of two engines, one the 2WD that is powered by the 2.0L i-VTEC engine, delivering 141bhp of power and other the 4WD that is available with a 2.4L i-VTEC engine. It is available with a choice of automatic and manual transmission.
Ride and Handling
The Outlander is based much on the platform of Mitsubishi Lancer that gives the SUV a perfect balance to weather extremities of high speed, tarmac driving, and even corner carving. The aluminium roof of the car helps to manage higher kerb weight and eventually reduces the centre of gravity. The friendly steering of the car and firm suspension makes the drive even safer and joyful.
When it comes to CR-V, it delivers a brilliant handling. Though the ride quality is comparatively less than the Outlander, the hard suspension and low-sung mechanicals of the car make the drive safe and easy going.
Fuel efficiency
Unfortunately, both the
SUVs are believed to be fuel guzzlers and give nearly the same mileage. Outlander gives a fuel efficiency of about 8kmpl in city and about 11kmpl on highways.
The CR-V delivers a fuel efficiency of about 9kmpl in city and about 16kmpl on highways with its 2WD whereas the 4WD gives an efficiency of about 7-8 kmpl in city and about 10-11 on highways.
Verdict
Though Mitsubishi Outlander has better off-roading capabilities, both the cars are equally good and tough in competition. These SUVs are different from each other but yet have so much similarity in terms of performance and fuel efficiency that makes actually difficult to choose between the two.
