Porsche Cayenne Stint in India


Porsche has its market in the creamy layer of Indian car owner. It offers only selected models for those who like to flaunt their speed machines. Porsche launched the Cayenne range of cars as an attempt to scale over its existing standards. The vehicle has become adorable for speed enthusiasts even since its launch in 2002. The company has not missed India and has offered a new variant of Cayenne – The GTS which is between the older Cayenne S and Turbo models.

Being a typical Porsche the SUV comes with a heavy baggage of luxury and safety features. It is available in two colours – the GTS Red and Nordic Gold Metallic. The Car will also be available in Lava Grey Metallic. It comes only as two-wheel drive. The GTS has been given a distinctive look as compared to the regular Cayenne. It gets large 21 inch wheel with a flaring wheel arches that make it look menacing. Actually the thicker wheels make you comfortable while negotiating curves and hill slopes. They are great when the car is throttled past the 260 kmph mark.

The safety features like anti-roll stability control and an all wheel drive system makes it safe even when speedometer reading goes high. The ride quality is incomparable. The interiors are classic yet modern. It has all the modern gadgets like climate control, mood lighting, CD changers and a lot more. The price of the SUV will reveal more about it than any other description.

The GTS is powered by a 4.8liter V8 engine churning out a 500 bhp power. The powerful engine is teamed up with a six-speed manual gear box or the optional six-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. The precision of its navigation of the steering wheel is amazing. Don’t go by its smooth looks it is capable of tackling the Indian terrain.

The new Cayenne is vast refined and improved over its predecessor. The most visible improvement is the car body lowered by an inch; steel springs and stiffer anti-roll bars have been fitted.

The chassis and suspension have seen a definite improvement, which shows up in its performance. The GTS is the first in the Cayenne range to combine steel suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management for better control. The GTS also comes with an optional air suspension for a higher sporty driving experience. The car bites the road superbly and the hard braking is equipped with 6-piston, aluminum monobloc calipers and huge 300mm discs are suited to apply brakes at high speeds. The steering wheel gives the driver complete feel of the road.

The price starts from Rs 84 lakh, which is more than what most Indian accumulates in earning their entire life. Only the Azim Premji’s, Ambani’s, Tata’s and SRK can stake a claim to own it.

But if you thought that the GTS was the last word in cayenne range think again. The Cayenne Turbo S variant will come to India only in 2009 as Porsche has just introduced it in International market. The Turbo S will on the high end of GTS. It pushes the power to 550 bhp and comes fitted with sporty four aluminum tailpipes.

The buyers will be given a host of options in the exterior and interior features. Naturally, there will be a touch screen navigation system, a Bose sound system with 14 speakers, which has been developed exclusively for Turbo S. The prices will be announced when it comes to India. Porsche has expanded its portfolio slowly, after its initial entry into India.
