The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is an elegantly designed sports coupe that was in production between 1955 and 1974. The name of the car was taken from an Italian term ‘Topolino’ that means ‘Mickey Mouse’ or ‘Little Mouse’. In 1937, three models of the car were produced and thereafter this affectionate little mouse experienced continuous modifications in terms of minor mechanical and cosmetic changes. The car was driven by a 569 cc four-cylinder, side valve, water-cooled engine mounted in front of the front axle.

This small little car was designed by a coachwork engineer Rudolfo Schaffer and engineered by the famous aero-nautical engineer Dante Giocosa. The car was actually designed as an open coupe but an occasional rear seat and bolt on steel hard top were also available. The occasional feature was available during certain specific production cycles.

The car was driven by a 1991 cc straight-4 OHV engine that produced 95 bhp. In addition, the four speed manual transmission supplemented by an overdrive unit was also mated to the car’s engine.
