Tips To Tune Your Car This Summer!

Driving in the summer season is usually hot and unpleasant regardless of the air conditioning system within the car. A few minutes parked under the sun can cause the car’s cabin temperature to heat up considerably. Preparing your car for the summer season is not something widely practiced in India. A few precautions and preventive measures can help your car survive the summer and give you comfort within its shelter.
The most important aspect to keep in mind during summer car maintenance is the engine coolant that prevents overheating. The coolant is forced to work harder in these months than any other time. Therefore, ensure that the coolant is replenished at proper intervals and that the radiator’s water and coolant mixture measure equally. The engines remain cool only if both of them are maintained at the right quantity.

Next, check the engine oil and other lubricants within the car. The manufacturer-supplied car’s owner manual will mention the right type of engine oil to be used during the summer. If the recommended oil is not found in your vicinity, you can consult the dealer and use the next best oil. It is always better to avoid cheap lubricants as they can cause more harm than benefit.

Pay attention to tyre pressure. The air pressure within tyres tends to expand in the summer and so the air pressure value will fluctuate accordingly. Refer to the car’s owner manual for exact details. Enhance tyre performance with good maintenance and make sure that it has been properly inflated before you go out for a long journey. A properly inflated tyre provides good road grip and a smooth ride. Achieving high speeds on the highway will not be a problem if the tyres are in good shape. Replace worn out tyres before the summer starts, because tyres wear out quickly due to higher friction caused on roads in the summer and they will soon loose grip and may cause skidding if not taken care of. Before embarking on long journeys check for signs of puncture and fix them immediately. Keep your spare tyre checked and inflated at all times.

Get the car battery checked with your servicing centre. Batteries do not give any indication of failing and so it is best to get it checked before the summer starts. Changing it every three years will add years to the car. While at the service centre, also get the air conditioning system and fluid content looked at. Replace and replenish parts and lubricants as required before the start of the summer season.

Buying car accessories like sun screens for the windows and sun control films for the rear windshield and side windows can help a little to control heat from entering into the cabin. Keep small items handy, like water, towels, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, and a jack. A well serviced car can last the summer and more and even make long trips an enjoyable experience.
