Reva Drives into a Big League of Global Auto Industry

Reva is an Indian electric car that has made a strong presence worldwide with its unmatched quality, outstanding performance, and state-of-art technologies. The car is built the Reva Electric Car Company (RECC) based in Bangalore.

It is believed that the story of RECC is much similar to driving its flagship model Reva. The car as well as the company made a silent entry into the market without creating any hype in the media. The car manufacturer had a desire to design, develop, manufacture, and distribute an eco-friendly car that offers zero emission, hassle-free ride quality, and satisfying driving experience. The company was successfully able to roll out one such car in 2001.

At the time when the Reva was launched there was skepticism and disorganized support from the reluctant government but today the cynicism has transcend the boundaries of technologies and proved its individualism in the market. Since past many years, Reva is dominating the electric car industry through sheer self-belief. Even today RECC continues to make modifications and changes to its electric car to meet the changing needs and demands of the new generation.

The key vision of the company is to establish a tradition of excellence and leadership in eco-friendly urban transportation by offering the highest standard of quality. Today, Reva is continuously climbing the value chain in the global car market. The credibility of the Reva is proved and sanctioned by a host of awards and recognitions the car has received in due course of its journey of never-ending success.

Here are some of the awards and recognitions India’s first electric car Reva has received:

M.S. Swaminathan Award for Environment Protection

Reva has received the Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Award for Environment Protection in the year 2001. The award was presented at an auspicious ceremony held at a function sponsored by Rotary Club of Madras East in Chennai.

The award was given by the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation established in the name of Monkombu Sambasivan Swaminathan who is an Indian agriculture scientist, born on August 7, 1925, in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. This great scientist is known as the ‘Father of the Green Revolution in India’ for introducing and developing high-yielding varieties of wheat in India. He is known to be an advocate for moving India to sustainable development of environment and an award by him obviously defines the true eco-friendly characteristics of the Reva.

Thomas Alva Edison Award for Innovation

In 2002, Reva received the ‘Thomas Alva Edison Award for Innovation’. This award was given for the innovation in technology that was incorporated in the car. The award was honoured by the Young Entrepreneurs Organization (YEO) and the Edison presentation Foundation of the Mexico City.

Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor and businessman who discovered many new devices and equipments that actually influenced life around the world. Later his friends and associates started introducing awards on his name to honour excellence in new product development. The Edison Award is among the most prestigious awards honoring excellence in development, marketing, or innovation of new products and services that actually puts a great influence on the life of people residing in the world. Reva also introduced a new technology to make transportation more nature-friendly and cost-effective and so an award like this is deserved by the car.

Golden Peacock Award

In 2003, Reva has received the Golden Peacock Award for introducing an innovative product in the automobile sector. The award was received on the occasion of inaugural session of the 14th World Congress on Total Quality 2004 that was organized by Institute of Directors, New Delhi, India.

The Golden Peacock National Quality Award is named after India's national bird ‘Peacock’ and is awarded every year for excellence in manufacturing and service sector to the best for the best. According to the organization, Reva was the best car that deserved the award for being the best in automotive sector.

SESI Business Leadership Award

Reva received the SESI Business Leadership Award in 2004 for being the best electric vehicle. The award was given by a special committee constituted by the Solar Energy Society of India (SESI) headquartered in New Delhi on the occasion of inaugural session of the International Congress on Renewable Energy-2005 at Pune.

SESI is the promoter and propagator of solar energy that pioneered Solar Concentrator Technology in India. The association is known for its solar technologies and introductions and an award given to Reva by SESI is a sure sign of car’s credibility in the electric vehicle segment.

Monte Carlo Sustainable Mobility Award

In the year 2005 at the 21st Worldwide Battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exhibition held at Monaco, Reva received the Monte Carlo Sustainable Mobility Award.

The award is catered to the introduction of most sustainable invention recognized in the industry. It also recognizes the concept that offers long-term solutions by efficient and eco-friendly technologies.

Most Ethical Car Award in UK

Reva was rechristened as G-Wiz in the UK where the car has been crowned with an award of the most ethical car for its eco-friendliness characteristics and other winning technologies. The award was given by Ethical Consumer, a UK based Magazine, which tested around 20 car companies that produce eco-friendly cars.
