Cars at Auto Expo 2010 Part-II


The 10th Auto Expo was flagged off at the Pragati Maidan exposition grounds in New Delhi on 5th January 2010. The show which attracted over 2,100 participants from 30 countries is a growing testimony to India's emergence as a major auto market and hub for the global automobile industry.

Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised this Auto Expo and the show saw a turnover of over two lakhs visitors during the week-long show.

The Indian automotive industry has a turnover of more than $18 billion (Rs.90,000 Crore) today and gained significantly through new tie-ups, partnerships and marketing initiatives during Auto Expo. The Expo witnessed the largest-ever overseas participation with contingents from Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Taiwan and Britain.

This time apart from cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers and other variety of automobile accessories were also on display. Other displays at the event included a wide range of new and locally designed and developed auto components. Many of these component designs have been patented in the country as well as overseas.

This is the second and the final part to our Article Cars at Auto Expo 2010. We have covered the rest of the cars that was debuted and displayed at the 10th Auto Show.

  1. Honda, on the other hand, not to be overshadowed by Toyota which was also in the same stand as Honda, previewed its “New-Small” concept car which will be produced in 2011. The New Small Concept will be powered by a new 1.0-litre petrol engine using VTEC technology.
    • Honda also showcased its CR-Z hybrid which uses Honda's IMA technology.
    • ASIMO, the humanoid also cheered the crowd at the Honda stand.

  1. Mahindra & Mahindra displayed its Mahindra Thar off-road concept which was based on the classic MM 540 body but inducted a new 2.5-litre common-rail diesel engine that has amazing off-roading capabilities. It also showcased the Bolero concepts.

  1. Hyundai made a noise at the Expo by revealing the i10 Electric which was unveiled by Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan.
    • Hyundai also previewed the Genesis coupe and the stylish HED-5 i-mode six-seater.

  1. Fiat in its second innings here in India also lined up its cars.

  1. Renault which has a meager presence in India with its only model the drab looking Logan came out with some of the interesting products it has lined up for the country.
    • The French actually made a clear statement that it could make beautiful cars when it showcased its Fluence and Laguna sedans.
    • The Koleos SUV also was previewed at the Expo along with the Megane sedan.
    • The single-seater electric-Twizzy also was displayed at the Expo with a Renault F1 R29 car.

  1. Volkswagen which is on a new high with the purchase of the considerable amount of Suzuki's stock meant it was serious about India when it showcased its products.
    • The Volkswagen Polo was officially showcased at the show. The VW Polo will see the light of the day in India during March 2010. The Polo which will come in three variants will be available in both in diesel and petrol engines.
    • Volkswagen's super-luxury car, the Phaeton was also displayed at the event.

  1. SkodaAuto India not to be left aside at the glitz of the Auto Expo also showcased their wares at the show.
    • Skoda came out with the Yeti SUV which is expected to be launched in India in the later part of 2010.
    • Skoda Laura RS with an ultra-desirable 200 bhp stole the show while Skoda Superb Estate which was also a part of the show was equally adorable.
    • Skoda Fabia Greenline with a green theme was well displayed at the show.

  1. Audi celebrating its centenary year also made a mark at the show with its products.
    • A replica of the Audi 225 Front roadster was displayed at the event to mark the centenary celebrations of the brand.
    • Audi also showed off its stunning Sportback and A7 concepts.
    • Audi also showcased its regular eye candies in the form of the R8 and Q5 at the Expo.

  1. Mercedes-Benz made a big bang at the show just a day before the show with its serial launches.
    • The Three-Pointed Star brand launched its GL 350 CDI and a new variant of the S-Class, the S500L in India.
    • Mercedes-Benz also showcased the E-Class Coupe that might be going on sale in 2010 with petrol and diesel engine options.
    • To add glamour to the show, the luxury car maker brought in and showcased a gold-coloured SLS AMG Gullwing.

  1. India's number one luxury car maker BMW did its best not to evade the limelight with its trendy and luxurious cars.

  1. DC added glitters to the Auto Expo with its jaw-dropping creations.
    • The DC Ying Yang which was designed by DC's son Bonito, was the centre of attraction. It stood on massive 23-inch wheels and is powered by a 90 bhp engine.
    • The DC Imperator grabbed eyeballs with its stunning superhero looks.
