All New Honda City Beats Maruti Suzuki SX4

In this era of sluggish car market, scintillating new launches are still in progress. Since over a year, a number of petrol saloons have set off a chain of launches, inundating the Indian car market.

With so many new car launches, the release of all new Honda City heralded a tough competition in the C-Segment where the brilliant Maruti Suzuki SX4 was ruling the class. Today both the cars have gained exalted positions in the various arenas that comprises designing, engineering, manufacturing, and marketing.
Here are the features that compel the cars to compete with each other.

bullet  Exteriors

The all new Honda City is definitely more attractive with its unique ‘Arrow Shot Design’ and tremendously outstanding details. This unique design mantra termed by Honda radiates a powerful aura with the front-end design capturing and resembling the thrusting energy of an arrowhead flying forward.

The distinctive and striking sharp edges, futuristic grille design, creases on the hood, tapered wraparound headlamps, and stretched silhouette makes the new City attuned to lure the global audience.

Coming to the class leading Maruti Suzuki SX4, it is designed at a height as compared to other cars in the same segment. The classic lines, elegant curves, flared arches, bulging flanks, and towering stature makes the SX4 more appealing. Even the longitudinal, horizontal, and vertical dimensions of the car are more as compared to the new City.

bullet  Interiors

The car interiors of the new City are as appealing and attractive as its exteriors. The two-tone upholstery, pseudo aluminium centre console, and an impressive dashboard heighten every aspect of the ambience. The design of the console is further accentuated with a racy orange glow radiating warmth and richness, something different and unique in its car segment. Further to that the multi-function display and LED strips running across the dash adds to the aesthetics of the interior.

The SX4’s interiors are also impressive with friendly controls, integrated music system, and attractive dashboard. Overlapping rings with thin chrome outline across the dash adds opulence to the ambience. It lacks the multi-function display unlike the City but is beautified with the steering mounted audio controls. SX4 scores over the City when it comes to car seats because City has comparatively low seats that force the occupants to stoop to enter the car.

bullet  Fuel-Efficiency

Both new City and SX4 delivers decent fuel efficiency. The City gives an efficiency of about 10.8 kmpl in city and about 18.2 on highways whereas the SX4 clocks 10 kmpl in city and 14 kmpl on highways. In city both the cars give nearly about the same mileage but on highways the new City proves to be better.

bullet Powertrain

The new Honda City is powered with a powerful 1.5L VTEC engine that delivers a peak power of 118 PS. The engine has been refined to deliver enhanced power and performance by squeezing out even the last drop of fuel from the engine. The engine is a bit noisy at full speed.

In comparison, Maruti Suzuki SX4 has a less powerful yet higher displacement engine that is economical and contemporary. It is powered by a 1.6L M-Series petrol engine that delivers comparatively less power than the City. It also has lower NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) than the City because of better insulation.

Both the cars use the same 5-speed manual transmission but yet they operate differently. The SX4’s gearshift is precise with short throws, yet the City exudes a more comfortable and relaxed feel.

bullet Performance

The new Honda City is believed to be nearly about 50 kilograms lighter than the SX4, thereby delivering superior performance. City also has lower rolling resistance because of its skinny tyres.

When it comes to ride quality, people say that the new City offers a more joyful experience than the SX4. This is mainly accredited to the H-beam design, improved shock absorption, high compliance bushes, and the ability of the car to cut through heavy traffic with ease and comfort.

Maruti Suzuki SX4 scores over the City when it comes to ground clearance, dynamics, and stability.

bullet Safety

The new Honda City has high safety standards as compared to its previous generation cars.  It now has the passenger airbags and the anti-lock brakes in all its variants but SX4 has the anti-lock brakes only in the top-end variant. In addition, the SX4 also has child-lock rear doors, an intelligent Computerized Anti-Theft System (iCATS), side impact protection beams, and front door-lock canceller.

Both the cars have the rakish hoods that absorb maximum energy thrust and ensure safety of the driver and the passengers.
