Electric cars have a long way to go

Electric cars are a great alternative to fuel based cars. They consume no fuel and emit no toxic fumes. Their only drawback so far is that they do not provide the power and performance of a petrol run vehicle. But electric cars have been in vogue for a long time. They are always encouraged and loved by Eco-enthusiasts.

As interest in alternative fuel rose, the concept of electric car got a fresh lease of life. In India Maini Reva was the first complete electric car. It was partially successful in India and has seen a huge success in European countries. The car was not popular in India due to its high cost. However, Reva is considered a complete electric car. Off late, many other small car companies have shown interest in manufacturing electric cars. Tata motors and Ajanta group are the new entrant in this sector. The electric car from Tata Motors is named as Tata tiny.

The new electric vehicle manufacturers do not have adequate facility or servicing centers to support the cars. Electric vehicle require special care and should come with a tag of handle with care. The government is not paying attention to monitor the quality of electric cars. This is another issue that an electric car user may face.

The car manufacturers have no idea of the problems that a car can generate as per individual use.

None of them have conducted any research and are incompetent to deal with problems that will arise after sales. Every car is subject to wear and tear as per individual’s usage. These problems have to be anticipated and servicing should be available, when the consumer needs it. Electric car sector requires equal dedication, investments and technical knowhow that a petrol run car industry needs.

But the competition in this sector is increasing and more players are entering the field. The government needs to set down guidelines to monitor these companies and their products. Sub-standard products should not be allowed to enter the market.

Car industry should also lay down some rules for new entrants so that they satisfy the basic requirement for manufacturing a car. It will also help to reduce fly-by-night operators, who makes quick money and vanish.

If the consumer looses confidence in electric cars, the sector will face a huge blow from which it may never recover. However, all this monitoring is urgent and the automobile manufacturer needs to induce confidence in people.
