Cover Your Car the Right Way

Cover Your Car the Right Way
A car, especially for Indians, is a priced possession. We need to take great care of it. The looks of a car speak a lot about its owner. How will you take care of your car? You may have heard a lot about car maintenance. This article will tell you only about the car cover. We think we know it all. But, read further and you will know that you did not know everything. If you think dressing a car with a cover is the easiest task in the world, the fact would still remain, it isn't.

How do you dress your car and how should it actually be done? You do it wrong and you will damage the car cover as well as your much-loved car. Roll up the cover from both ends onto the roof. If the car cover is positioned on top, it should span the breadth of your car. Similarly, while putting on the cover, gently unroll it from one end and then move to the other end. Stretch both ends of the cover over the front and rear bumpers respectively. While removing the cover, you need to first loosen the cover from the bumpers and only then roll it from both ends onto the roof of the car.

If you have been doing it the easy way, you need to stop. One sweeping motion and the car cover comes in your hand. Never do this. The cover should never be dragged off the car. There may be dust on the car's surface and it will get dragged too. You will soon begin noticing marks or scratches on the car paint. If your car cover comes with pockets for the outer rear view mirrors, stretch them over the mirrors first before covering the rest of the car.

Now that you know how to clothe your car and undress it, you can be sure that the external appearance of the car will remain good for a longer period. But, do you know how to take care of the cover? A dirty cover can make a clean car dirty. You know how to make the external beauty of your car last longer. But, do you know how to prolong the life of the cover itself?

Sooner or later, your car cover is going to collect dust on its interior surface. Getting rid of this dirt is quite easy. Wet the cover with water and clean it with an all-purpose cleaner. Wash off the dirt and dry the cover completely. A wet or damp cover should never be put over the car. The trapped moisture will damage both your new car and its cover. You may have found a variety of car covers in the market. Make sure you buy one that is breathable even if it may be a little expensive. The breathable cover will help prevent moisture from getting trapped on the inner side.

Does your car cover have an opening for the antenna? If no, make one that is properly aligned and fits closely around it. Your car may also have a sharp bonnet ornament or moulding. If that is the case, strengthen the area of the inside of the cover that will go over the sharp surface. A duct tape will serve the purpose just right. If your car cover is already torn, it needs to be replaced as soon as possible. Moisture and dirt entering from the ripped open area of the cover can damage your car.

Have you ever wondered about the extent of protection your car gets because of the cover? The cover stands by your car all through the year, protecting it from the sun's rays, rain, dew and even bird droppings. It's just a cover but offers so much of a protection against all your car's enemies. A car with the cover on, when parked, has lesser dirt accumulated on its body. The cover takes all the dirt leaving the shine on your car. You may have just installed a brand new music system or any other expensive accessory in your car. How would you prevent it from being spotted by inquisitive eyes? How would you protect it from being seen by the prying eyes of car thieves? Don't you think a car cover is the most appropriate option?

Remember, your car cover becomes the first line of security against natural and man-made calamities. You drive your car during the summers and in the rain. But, when you're not on the drive, let your car have its shower cap on. If your car is going to hibernate in the garage for a long time, cloak it with a four or five-layer cover. This will prevent the car from suffering scars when other objects topple over it.
