Indian car market is overflowing with so many car brands and models. It has now become easier to choose from a variety of cars as the country holds a car for every segment. But at the same time we have so many options that choosing the best car has become a challenge.

In olden days it was easier to select a car as only handful of cars were available in country. Only Ambassador and Fiat models were manufactured in India and other models had to be imported. However, the growing demand for cars in India saw a gradual raise and over the succeeding years in alliance with the Suzuki of Japan, the government of India gave birth to Maruti. Maruti played a very vital role in the Indian car market inviting more foreign car manufacturers to India. Major players like Mitsubishi, Honda, Hyundai, General Motors, Mercedes and other big players in the industry saw a great potential in the Indian car market and experienced success with their models in India.

Now we have so many car brands and models with several variants that a buyer is actually confused with his selection of a car. The latest talk of the town is the Tata’s ultra-cheap car, Nano, which has created a sensation not only in the Indian auto industry but also worldwide. Tata Nano was unveiled at the 9th Auto Expo, 2008 at New Delhi and will be seen on the Indian roads by October this year. This ‘one lakh’ car anticipated to be one of the newer “breeds” of cars in the 21st century, as the consumers are said to now seem for something lighter, smaller as well as  affordable.

The competition among the car makers is very high and every car manufacturer is fighting to the top position in the Indian market. Small car is the latest trend in India and every car maker including General Motors, Fiat, Hyundai, Toyota Motor and Ford Motor are joining the small car race.

Now with the fuel price touching the sky Indian car players are rolling eco-friendly cars like electric cars, hybrid cars, CNG and LPG versions. Honda rolled out the first hybrid car in India with its popular model Honda Civic hybrid and now Toyota will be soon introducing Toyota Prius hybrid in India.
