Tips to Carry Cargo in Cars

Cars are own by many. For some cars means style and fashion while for others it is a necessary commodity. Cars not only serve the purpose of daily commuting but also used to carry goods. SUVs are popularly used to carry cargo as they have ample space. Even normal cars can carry huge cargo if used with some modifications.

Racks can be fitted on a car to carry luggage. Choose strong racks that can withstand heavy weight. It can be anything may be a clutch of bicycles or a pile of camping gear that carry the cargo load safely. There are different types of roof racks available in the market. One of them is the factory racks that is much suitable for carrying two suitcases and are only capable of handling stable loads. The weight restrictions for these racks are printed on the rack itself or in the user manual.

Whereas for carrying heavy or irregular shaped loads “aftermarket” racks are best. These racks further come in two types: roof racks and rear-hitch racks.

Roof racks: These racks are used for carrying long objects like canoes, kayaks and surfboards. However skis, bikes, snowboards and cargo boxes can be carried on either a roof rack or a rear-hitch rack.

A standard roof rack consists of two crossbars and four “foot” mounts, which is attached to the vehicle’s factory side-rail rack. Roof racks are easily available in the manufacturer’s showroom. It is important to note that roof racks can be easily removed if they are left unlocked. The better option would be to lock them to protect it from thieves.

Rear-hitch racks: These types of rack are very popular which can be attached to your vehicle via a receiver hitch and can be outfitted to carry everything from skis and snowboards to bicycles and cargo boxes. These racks can be easily loaded and are cost effective. They provide easy access to the rear of the vehicle and come with a lock to keep the belongings safe. These can be installed to any cars.

Cargo baskets and cargo boxes are also used as cargo carrier that can be directly mounted to the roof rack.

Cargo baskets: These are multipurpose and comparatively economical option for carrying a mixture of odd-shaped items. Basically everything is held in the basket safely with stretch nets.

Cargo boxes: These are used for hauling costly luggage that needs to be locked up for safety. They come in different form like hard-shell, bullet-shaped, waterproof boxes and in a variety of colours and sizes.

Before choosing a rack for a car, one should always find out if the car can really support a particular rack or not. Convertibles are out from the list of cars that bears roof racks. Whereas many aftermarket racks are available that can fitted on any type of vehicle.

How to attach them on the car?

Hitch racks is plug into a trailer hitch while strap racks use straps that wrap around a car's trunk. Different styles of towers are available for roof racks that attaches directly to the roof. Ladders and large hardware can also be attached to a rack.
