Ltd (MSIL) took the Indian automobile world by storm by launching the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga on 12th April 2012 at its headquarters in New Delhi. The MUV, available in both petrol and diesel versions, has been termed by MSIL as a Life Utility Vehicle (LUV). MSIL currently rules as the most popular car maker in India, selling 10 million out of the 15 million cars
sold in the country. The company expects to further strengthen its sales position with the introduction of the Ertiga. The MUV carrying an introductory price tag of Rs5.89 to Rs8.45 lakhs, rules as the least expensive MUV available in the space.
Maruti Ertiga: Mileage and Fuel Economy
The new Ertiga delivers an impressive mileage, thanks to its exquisite K series engine. The BS-IV compliant compact MPV gives out a mileage of 16.02 kmpl in case of its petrol version and a whooping mileage of 20.77 kmpl in case of the diesel version.
Maruti Ertiga uses the VVT or variable valve timing technology which changes the timing of fuel intake ensuring continuous power generation, maximizing the power of the engine. The technology maximizes engine performance and acceleration while keeping emissions under check.
Maruti Ertiga: Engine Capacity, Performance & Power
The petrol version of the Maruti Ertiga is powered by a K-14B variable valve timing, 1.4 liter engine which churns out power of 95 bhp @ 6,000 rpm. Peak torque of 130 Nm is produced at 4,000 rpm.
The Diesel version of the Maruti Ertiga is powered by a 1.3 liter engine which delivers a power of 90 bhp @ 4,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 200 Nm @ 1,750 rpm. The DDiS with VGT diesel engine is the same as the one which powers the trusted Maruti SX4.
The engine powering the Maruti Ertiga is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, which contributes to an awe-inspiring acceleration. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 15 seconds in the petrol version and in 15.5 seconds in the diesel version, touching top speed of 155 kmph.
Maruti Ertiga: Variants and Choice of Colours
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is available in six variants. The petrol option includes LXi, VXi and ZXi variants while the diesel options include LDi, VDi and ZDi variants.
Ertiga offers a choice of seven colours for all its variants, Fire Brick Red, Ecru Biege, Serene Blue, Silky Silver, Dusky Brown, Granite Grey and Superior White.
Maruti Ertiga: Exterior
Maruti Ertiga has been endowed with contemporary looks, guaranteed to grab eyeballs. The impressive MUV, based on the Swift platform, has the looks and the feel of a sporty car. The clean looks of the car created a stir when it was unveiled at the Auto Expo. The swept back headlamps look similar to that adorning the Swift while the bonnet and grille have been inspired by the Ritz. The rear view of the car has a small cluster of tail lamps, enhancing its car like appearance. The car has a stretched wheelbase of 2,740mm to accommodate an additional third row seat. The length of 4,265 mm takes the car out of the four-meter league, attracting the levy of excise duty, though the car is smaller than a normal MUV.

The interiors of the Ertiga
look very similar to the Swift, with a slight difference. Unlike the black finish of the Swift, the Ertiga has got a brown and beige finish, contributing to a roomy experience. The silver trims on the door and steering wheel contribute to a classy look. The front seats are carved out from the back to enhance the leg room while the second row seats are 60:40 split and capable of sliding and reclining. The third row can be accessed by folding and sliding forward the second row seat. The car provides for centre arm rests, even for the third row commuters. The Ertiga provides for a stowage space of 135 liters when all the seats are upright and in use. The space can be enhanced up to 735 liters when the second and third row seats are folded.
Ertiga ensures that the passengers travel in style, the car is equipped with a powerful audio system with 4+2 speakers and USB compatibility. The MPV comes with a Nippon Kenwood MP3 player which also has FM, AM and Radio functions. The third row passengers can easily operate the single CD player with remote function without disturbing the front seat passengers.
Maruti Ertiga: Safety Features
The new Maruti Ertiga has been loaded with standard and modern safety features, ensuring the safety of the commuters. The car has an airbag for the driver and his co-passenger apart from an ABS, EBD and brake assist. Other safety features of the car include engine immobilizer and a high tensile roof.
