Nano is said to repeat Tata’s history as it narrates the same story that echoed in the automotive industry a decade ago when the Tata Indica was launched. The launch of Nano in many ways is reminiscent of 1998 when
Tata launched the first indigenously made car, Tata Indica.
In 1995, Ratan Tata dreamt of producing the Indica with the size of the Maruti Suzuki Zen, dimension of the sturdy Hindustan Ambassador, and the pricing of the Maruti 800. He shared his dream with every Indian and finally unveiled its first passenger car Indica in India. Moreover, the car was launched at a time when there was an economic downturn.
The same history is repeated with the launch of the Nano. Ratan Tata in 2003 saw one more dream to produce an affordable compact car for Indians. Finally, the dream comes true in 2009 and again the dream car of Ratan Tata is unveiled at a time when the market is completely in the clutches of economic fall.
Repeating the same history now Ratan Tata aspires that the Nano emulates the success story of the Indica as well. It is believed that in the initial months, the Indica received a good response from car buyers across the country. And the way Nano interest is rustling up among car buyers, Tata Motors expects a similar growth.
Going by the popularity of the car, Tata is expecting lakhs of applications from car buyers that will help the company meet the challenges of the recessive market.
The first people car in India was introduced 25 years ago with the launch of the Maruti 800. M800 was a revolutionary car that marked the evolution of automobiles and today the launch of another people’s car has sparked a new revolution marking a significant milestone in the voyage of automotive discovery.
The impact of
Nano on small car segment has been tremendous. All the major brands like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Chevrolet that have small cars in their portfolio are facing a tough time with the launch of the Nano. Nano-mania has taken such hype that car buyers are just trying to grab the Nano key because of its excellence in all respects. The USP (Unique Selling Point) of the car is the extremely affordable price tag and better mileage than other leading small cars like the 800, Spark, and the Alto. Adding to the worth is the compact dimension of the car along with low ground clearance that makes the car run efficiently on congested city roads.
