Car Models with Long Lasting Effect

Cars always had a special place in the hearts of the people and every day the importance is growing. We live in the world of cars available in different shapes and sizes. Some are hot selling cars but some become disastrous cars that are utter failures due to several reasons like price, shape, features etc. There are many models which have created a long lasting effect on people.

In the 80’s there was a car called Yugo (It must be a name that many would be wondering, where to go. Eh?) which was manufactured by Zastava Corporation in Serbia. It was a mini coupe that received impressive response in the U.S market. It carried the price tag of $3,990 (Rs 2 Lakh). But as every good thing has to come to an end, Yugo too had to say adios. After U.N’s authority on Yugoslavia, Zastava was forced to remove the car models from the U.S markets by 1992. The car was developed based on the mechanics of Fiat 128, under license from Fiat, with a modified body style. The car experienced many criticism and was also voted as the worst car of the millennium. One of the main issues with Yugo was that the parts could not be repaired and had to be replaced. Though the car was phased out it is still unforgotten.

Another model that carries great success against its name is the Toyota Prius hybrid. It was a car that won millions of heart. It is one of the hottest selling cars in the U.S market by selling more than 155,000 units in 2008. In its country of origin Japan, every other car that was sold was Prius. This model was solely responsible for stimulating the car brand as the eco-friendly car company of new era. The cars impress people not just in terms of style but other factors like power and performance come into picture. These features add more value to the car in the eyes of a consumer.

Toyota Prius was well acknowledged by the auto experts too. Many commented highly in its favour. An automotive expert Mike Caudill commented that "Toyota just hit a home run with the Prius." It is really nice to see that Prius has created a long lasting effect in the car industry globally. Very soon the Indian car markets too will get to experience the goodness of the Prius.

Some of the vintage car collectors choose the cars that are exclusive and are more close to the people’s heart in terms of design and performance. For instance the sporty Ford Mustang was first manufactured in 1964 and till date it is seen in markets though in hi-tech, pimped up versions. Mustang is the car which carries the tag of a muscle car in the American market and it is followed by Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro but despite this Mustang leads the segment because of its unmatched power, style and torque.

Mustang which was seen in both coupe and convertible was a sold like hot cakes on the very day of the launch and by 1965 more than half a million units were sold. Till today the stunning model is launched almost every year with modifications which clearly reveals the importance and popularity of Mustang.

Another model which has a long history and is still in production is the world’s popular people’s car, Beetle from Volkswagen. It is said that Adolf Hitler asked Ferdinand Porsche, the legendary creator of Porsche, to design a people’s car that could seat two adults and two children giving 100km/hr. And after World War II, Volkswagen Beetle evolved as a car winning millions of hearts. The car which was introduced in 1938 and the production were interrupted in between but the production of new version of Beetle started again in 1998.

This little car which is popularly known as ‘Bug’ was a great success across the world. It was the perfect car for the masses as it was inexpensive with reliability as the primary factor. Its air-cooled engine mounted at the rear was inspired by Ferdinand Porsche who created the same structure in his 911 model. The good news is that Volkswagen Beetle will arrive in India but definitely it will not be a people’s car here.

Cherokee from Jeep was the first SUV that was sold in bigger volumes. This inspired other car manufacturers and they joined the bandwagon. In 1984 Dodge launched the Caravan from the minivan segment which too gained a lot of popularity.

Tata Nano is another car which people will always remember. It is the world’s cheapest car developed by Tata Motors that has left many auto experts and critic in wonders. Also Maruti Suzuki 800 the first stylish car manufactured in India too has a special place in the history of car industry.
