Your Extra Seconds can give Your Car Years!

Be it a classic car or a new model, sparing some time in the garage is absolutely necessary to keep them running without breakdowns.

Regular routine checks and adjustments can keep deterioration at bay on any car, old or new. Maintenance becomes even more important for any vehicle that is used on a daily basis, or that has to live outside, without the benefit of a cosy garage when the weather is doing its worst! With soaring costs in maintenance, motoring is no longer cheap. But a little preventative maintenance can go a long way in warding off really big, unforeseen, bills. This approach applies equally to someone driving a 40 year old classic or a brand new 2008 model.

With increased use of automated machines in cars there is less that the hands-on motorist can actually do under the bonnet of their car; a myriad of computers and mysterious black boxes have put paid to many Sunday afternoon tinkerers. This is where the older car comes in to its own, as most of the parts under the bonnet of an old car are usually fairly obvious, easy to get at, and usually not too scary to try and fix. Despite this, the modern car driver can still perform a few tasks to keep his/her vehicle in decent condition.

A person need not always take his/her car to the next door mechanic in order to keep it in good condition. Following certain simple guidelines can save unnecessary spending and keep the car in a good condition.

Ensuring that your car tyres have enough air is one basic thing every car user has to always keep in mind. Cars with lower tyre pressure are more vulnerable to accidents and they also consume more fuel besides risking punctures. Every car model has a User’s Guide, which lists out useful information on maintenance of the car. Make it a point to always carry this guide in the car. Pay attention to new noises while driving your car; it helps if you take a drive once in a while with the music system off. Any noise that sounds out of place should be investigated immediately and if you can’t figure it out, take it to a mechanic who can.

Maintaining a classic car is not easy, especially if you are a new user. The oldies can be more complicated to repair or you may not find it easy to find spares. It is advisable that you always take opinion from your mechanic before attending to them on your own. Owners of such cars have formed clubs and forums in various countries. Classic car owners can utilize these platforms to get their doubts cleared on issues or pass on suggestions to others based on experience.

So, whether old or new, spend a few seconds of your time learning about your car and it will reward you by going that extra mile and providing you with service for more years than you expect.
