Maruti Suzuki India
January 2010 saw the highest ever sales in a single month at over 11 lakh units. A major contributor for the successful month was our very own
Maruti Suzuki. Including the 14,562 units of exports, Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 95,649 vehicles in January 2010, as compared to the 67,005 vehicles sold in the domestic market in January 2009. Maruti registered a growth of 21.2 per cent in Jan 2010 as compared to the same a year ago.
If you thought January was the best, think again, because February was even better for Maruti Suzuki. It reported total sales of 96,650 vehicles, (including export of 11,885 vehicles), which is the highest ever total monthly sales in its history.
Maruti Suzuki increased its sales by 20.02 per cent. Exports surged by 38.76 per cent to 11,885 units from 8,565 units sold in the last year.
Hyundai Motors India
Hyundai started the New Year 2010 on a positive note as both domestic and overseas sales recorded a positive growth. While domestic sales registered a growth of 40.8%, exports increased by 42.6% and overall growth stood at 41.6% for the month ending January, 2010. Hyundai India's total sales for January, 2010 stood at 52,635 units as compared to the 37,171 units sold in January, 2009 registering 41.6% cumulative growth. The
domestic sales growth accounted for 29,601 units (which is the highest since 1998 when HMIL launched the Santro in September) as against 21,016 units in January, 2009 while the
exports grew from 16,155 units in January, 2009 to 23,034 units in January, 2010.
India's second largest car manufacturers,
Hyundai Motor India Ltd, touched a new high when total sales rose by 42.85 per cent at 54,617 units against 38,235 units sold in February 2009. The total domestic sales for February 2010 stand at 31,001 units which was 21,215 units in the same month a year ago.
Chevrolet
As the recently launched
Chevrolet models were doing well, it did not come much as a surprise when Chevrolet announced January 2010 as a dream month with sales growth reaching a record 139%. In January 2010, General Motors' sales numbers were 3973 units as compared to this years 9421 units overall.
February brought another high to Chevrolet when it registered a record growth of 126 per cent, as compared to the same month a year ago. Recording an all time high in monthly sales, it sold 11,111 units in February 2010 against 4,921 units in February last year. This is the first time that the company has crossed ten thousand units' sales in a month since the inception of the company in India in 1996.
Tata Motors
Indian automaker, Tata Motors, total sales (including exports) of commercial and passenger vehicles in January 2010 stood at 65,478 vehicles, a growth of 77 per cent over 36,931 vehicles sold in January 2009. Domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for January 2010 were 62,202 vehicles, a 74 per cent growth over 35,704 sold in January last year.
Tata Motors has sold 69,427 vehicles over 43,811 vehicles sold in February 2009, lifting the sales figure up by 58%.
Tata Motor's domestic sales went up by 56% at 66,190 vehicles compared to 42,493 sold in February 2009. Export of Tata vehicles stood at, 237 vehicles, up by 146%.
Honda
The month of January was full of struggle for Japanese carmakers such as
Honda and
Toyota. However, sales seemed to be doing fine. Honda recorded a 3.64 percent growth in January 2010. Compared to the sales of January 2009, when they sold 5,773 cars, this time around Honda India sold 5,983 units in the same month.
February also proved to be a happy deal for Honda. Honda sold 6,275 units during February 2010, as against 5,579 units in February 2009, an increase of 12.5%.
Mercedes
Luxury car manufacturer
Mercedes-Benz India reported a total of 403 units for the January month. Now this is the highest sales figure recorded by the company in January so far Against 82 units sold during the corresponding month of last year, the company registered over four-fold growth in January.
February brought another wave of good sales for Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes reported 78 per cent rise in sales for February 2010, at 439 units. The company sold 246 units in the corresponding period last year.
Audi
Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, made a happy start in 2010 with an excellent 181 percent growth in India for January 2010. Audi India's countrywide vehicle sales in January this year stood at 306 cars as compared to 109 units sold in January 2009.
Thanks to the aggressive marketing techniques and the badge value, Audi registered an impressive 123 per cent growth in India for February 2010. Audi India's countrywide vehicle sales in February this year grew to 252 cars as compared to 113 units sold in February 2009.
March Sales Projection
Well, the March sales results will be out within a few days. According to J.D. Power and Associates, March new-vehicle retail sales are projected to increase by 25 percent as compared with the same period one year ago.
New vehicle sales are expected to touch 883,300 units in March 2010. Compared to the sales in March 2009, retail sales are projected to increase by 2.3 million units this March.
