Best Cars of the Year 2008

The Indian car market is vibrant and promising with a huge number of new car launches every year. Car manufacturers are heading with fresh ideas, innovative technologies, and advanced designing skills to deliver the best to the car consumers.

They work diligently to satisfy the cravings and desires of car consumers with reliable, dependable, and fuel-efficient cars. Maruti Suzuki A-Star is awarded the best hatchback of the year. This new car from Maruti's stable has successfully manages to appeal the average young car buyers with its distinctive exterior, pleasing looks, and warm interiors. Excellent styling, improved comfort, impressive fuel efficiency, and outstanding performance come in an affordable and economical package.

A-star is propelled with the latest invention in engine technology, the next generation KB series. 1.0-litre K10B engine delivers an excellent power output and impressive fuel efficiency. In the present scenario, the car is in compliance to the Bharat Stage III emission norms and it is also cautiously designed to meet future emission norms both in the Indian as well as international market.

The exterior of the car is beautified with contemporary European design and impressive features. Some special characteristics of the car exterior are sweeping expressive lamps, wide sporty grille, good engine ventilation, comet shaped tail lamps, and striking bumper.

The car displays a blend of modern and ethnic interiors. It is designed with a crushable structure for optimized safety of both the driver as well as rear seat passengers.

The new Honda City has bagged the award for best sedan of the year. The car model has gone through various facelifts and generations to reach the present pathbraking all-new Honda City.

The interior of the car is beautifully adorned with elegant fabrics, ornamented instrument cluster, dual tone dashboard, and an advanced integrated music system.

New Honda City also ensures maximum safety for not only the car passengers but also the pedestrians and other vehicles sharing the road. It is equipped with a host of safety features including the G-Force technology, dual airbags, and antilock brakes with electronic brake force distribution.

The tag of best SUV of the year is given to the Mitsubishi Outlander. The demand for SUVs in the Indian car market has gradually increased as family cars. Many car manufacturers have introduced their high-end SUVs in the market, out of which the Outlander was found to be class-leading in terms of style, performance, comfort, and fuel efficiency.

The newly launched Outlander was introduced against the Chevrolet Captiva and Tata Sumo Grande. The car was brought through the CBU route to ensure that the SUV follows the same success path as the Honda CR-V in the country.

New Mitsubishi Outlander comes with an impressive style decorated with shapely headlamps, the large twin slatted grille, and aluminium skidplate. The muscular and impressive exteriors of the car give it a macho appeal. In addition, the car interiors is beautified with a customized 650-watt Rockford Fosgate music system, well designed instrument cluster, stylish dashboard, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, plush beige interiors, and rear seat centre armrest.

Under the hood, the Outlander is powered with a 2.4-litre MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) unit that pumps out 168 bhp. CBU are those cars that are imported in the country as completely built units. Many of the international beauties have magnetised many Indian consumers with their charm and glamour.

The premium CBU of this year is the Audi A4, a car that was imported with new standards of performance and luxury.
