Drive Greener without a Green Car

The growing pollution calls for an urgent need to switch the country’s car industry to green vehicles. It’s the current demand of the environment that everyone should wear a green conscience.

During this era, India is not actually ready for a portfolio of green cars. Even if the car manufacturers make a fast switch over, the country won’t be able to provide the required service and stations to support the hybrid vehicles. The current cost price of hybrids is also much higher than the regular cars. It is really difficult for the common man to buy a costly hybrid.

Till then, there are ways that are helpful to drive greener without a green car. Since the country is not ready for hybrids and the green cars are not available at a lower cost, the following tips can help to reduce the burden on the environment:
bullet Reduce Weight of the Car
Don’t load the car with unnecessary weight. Shed down all the extra weight from the car because excess of weight directly puts pressure on the car engine. The engine has to work harder to pull the heavy load in the car, which in turns lead to more fuel consumption and more emissions. If not in use remove roof racks, roof boxes and sunroofs as well. Lighter the car better is the fuel efficiency and lesser is the pollution.

bullet Maintain Car
Car maintenance is another requirement for driving greener with the same old car. Get the car serviced at regular interval of time. Faulty brakes, engine aids to increase the fuel consumption. Even under-inflated tyres enhance fuel consumption which eventually increases environmental pollution.

bullet Don’t Waste Fuel
Earlier, people used to start the engine and wait for some time to drive the car. The traditional engines were not powerful and friendly. But the modern engines are good enough with high quality standards so the driver does not needs to warm the engine. They can just switch and drive. Make a habit to switch off the engine during heavy traffic and at long signals. Fuel energy is also consumed by electrical components like air conditioner, music player and heated seats in the car. So, if these are not required switch them off and don’t waste fuel.

bullet Anticipate Hassles
Keep an eye on the road. Always remember there can be number of obstacle while driving on the road. These can include bumps, shocks, accidents, pedestrians, traffic and many other things that force to apply a sudden brake. Be alert so that a sudden brake is not required. Use minimum of brakes and let the car engine slow down the car.

bullet Drive Slow
Driving the car slow to a certain limit helps to preserve lot of fuel. Cruise control is beneficial to drive the car at a steady speed. Slow drive will also be beneficial in driving the right way without any confusion. Don’t play with the gears, change them swiftly from second to fourth and third to fifth. This further reduces fuel consumption.

bullet Avoid Short Distance Drive
Car is not a toy to play with all the time. A car's engine is inefficient when cold, so don’t start the engine and warm it up just a distance of half a kilometer. Instead cover the distance by walking. This will help to save fuel as well as enhance the engine life.

bullet Learn Driving Skills
Good driving skills are also vital in green driving. The driver should be well aware of how to use the brakes, accelerator and clutch. Even the steering wheel should be mastered on. This helps in saving lot of fuel and reduces emissions.
