Types of Hybrid Cars

Innovation and advancements has revitalized the complete scenario of the car industry. Certain innovations and developments in the interior ignition engine vehicles, especially in cars, is one of the supreme accomplishments. This kind of engine offers a portfolio of cleaner and greener cars, the hybrids.

Hybrid cars are a fusion of traditional gasoline powered engines and electric engines. These cars equipped with modern technology are clean sources of energy saving and environment protection. This is the basic reason why these cars were thought about. Apart from this, other considerable factor behind the increasing demand of hybrid cars is the steeping growth in the fuel prices.

The basic components loaded in a hybrid car are – a fuel tank that holds the fuel engine, a small fuel engine that emits less pollutant, an electric motor that runs the car, a set of batteries that supports the electric motor and the transmission.

The set of basic components remain the same but still the hybrid cars are divided into different types. These different types are constructed to provide wider choice and options to the car consumers. Different categories are classified on the basis of price tags, driving conditions and engine types.

Different types of hybrid cars are described below:

Full Hybrid Cars

The Full hybrid cars are those that solely use electric motors to run under operating conditions like low speed maneuvering and light cruising. When some extra power is required in case of emergencies, the power from small gasoline engine kicks in to support the working and enhance the effectiveness of the electric motor.

Parallel Hybrid Car

This class of cars have the internal combustion engine and electric motor linked to a mechanical transmission. The Parallel Hybrid car comprises of a fuel tank that provides fuel to the engine for operation and simultaneously the electric batteries keep on charging the electric motor. Both the motors are further used to drive the car forward.

Series hybrid car

Series hybrid cars, also known as Range-Extended Electric Vehicle, are those cars in which the internal combustion engine gives power to the electric generator or motor instead of directly propelling the car. The powered generator further charges both the batteries and the electric motor to move the car. The two functions cannot be worked simultaneously. This simply means that this type of hybrid car does not directly require any fuel engine to get power.
